2008 Dodge Magnum Review

Decent amount of power with a sleek exterior design and abundant interior upgrades.

Reviewed by Automotive on

The 2008 Dodge Magnum combines the functionality of a family-sized vehicle with the power of a strong muscle-car. Available in four trim packages, the Dodge Magnum offers a style for every driver on the open road. Consumers might notice minimal changes between prior year models and the 2008 model, but this should not be a concern. The previous models set the bar for the car’s future progression, and the small updates just made the vehicle that much more sought after.

The Range

Body Styles: Wagon
Engines: 2.7-liter V-6, 3.5-liter V-6, 5.7-liter V-8, 6.1-liter V-8
Transmissions: Automatic
Models: Magnum SE, Magnum SXT, Magnum RT, Magnum SRT-8

What's New

Although minimal, the updates to the 2008 Dodge Magnum can be found on both the interior and exterior. The body style sees improvements in the reshaped grille design that accents the sleek lines of the remodeled hood. In two of the trim packages, R/T and SRT8, the optional headlamps are now available along with standard LED lights set to illuminate both the door pockets and cup-holders. Other interior upgrades include a sleek, new instrument panel.

The 2008 Dodge Magnum is available in four trim packages for the 2008 year. The SE, SXT, R/T, and performance SRT8 trims provide a wide range of features and perks. The 2008 Dodge Magnum’s exterior is updated to boast a new body style and grill. The standard wheel options vary from the 17-inch steel wheels on the base SE to the 20-inch alloy wheels on the SRT8. With four model options, consumers can mix and match various external features, including a sunroof or Xenon headlights.

The 2008 Dodge Magnum is considered a high-quality sport wagon that can compete with costly European counterparts in terms of performance and luxury. Inside the cabin, expect to find navigation control, Bluetooth, back seat entertainment systems, and top-of-the-line Kicker audio systems, depending on the trim package. In addition, consumers can take comfort in the automatic climate control and leather upholstery found in the SRT8. The cabin seats up to five occupants and features up to 28 cubic feet of cargo room.

Performance & Handling

The base 2008 Dodge Magnum starts with a standard 2.7-liter, V-6 engine capable of releasing 190 horsepower and 190 lb-ft of torque. If the need for higher performance is calling, upgrade to the SXT model’s 3.5-liter V-6 engine, which provides 250 horsepower and lb-ft of torque. Of course, there is still room to grow with the RT, which features a 5.7-liter V-8 that boosts the numbers to 340 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. The sporty and powerful SRT8 pushes the limit with a 6.1-liter, V-8 engine with a high output of 425 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque.

All 2008 Dodge Magnum models are offered with a variety of standard safety features, including anti-lock brakes, along with traction and stability control. Full-length curtain airbags are found standard on the SRT8 and are optional on the other three models. Consumers can take comfort in the 2008 Dodge Magnum’s high government safety ratings, which include five out of five stars for both the driver and front passenger protection.
