Consumers are sure to enjoy the roomy interior while in the cabin or the clean and aesthetic body style from a distance.

The Range

Body Styles: Midsize SUV
Engines: 3.7-liter V-6
Transmissions: six-speed manual, four-speed automatic
Models: Nitro SXT, Nitro SLT

What's New

Describing what’s new in the Dodge Nitro 2008 starts mainly with the exterior body design and interior color options. For this model year, the Nitro introduces body color exterior trim options on the SXT model and a new trailer sway control feature to benefit the stability control system. Blue, orange, and red can be added to the interior through two tone sets on the R/T trim package that offers practical upgrades to the exterior and interior cabin.

Looking beyond the masculine design of the 2008 Dodge Nitro, it's easy to notice the many small features that make the car stand out in its class. The roof rack and 16-inch steel wheels standard on the SXT base model set the tone for the vehicle. Moving up to the SLT, options such as 17-inch alloy wheels and privacy glass can be found. All this builds up to the luxury options featured in the R/T trim packages that include 20-inch chrome wheels along with towing preparation and a variety of interior upgrades.

This five passenger vehicle is no stranger to Dodge’s whimsical name for some of its latest technology. The Load ‘n Go seating options provide consumers with multiple interior floor plans to accommodate passengers or carry large bulk supplies from one location to the next. Standard trim features such as air-conditioning and a CD stereo can be found on the base model with additional perks such as audio controls on the leather wheel on the SLT. A high-end interior package can also be purchased along with the R/T trim upgrade available only on the SLT model.

Performance & Handling

Expect to reach 210 horsepower with 235 lb-ft torque once behind the wheel of the SXT. Although the standard six-speed transmission is included, the four-speed is available depending on the consumer's preferences. The four-speed transmission is a new standard for the SLT with the R/T trim package featuring a five-speed. It can easily reach up to 260 horsepower and 265 lb-ft torque with assistance from the R/T addition. Standard on all 2008 Dodge Nitros is the rear drive or four-wheel drive capabilities. Handling on all models leaves something to be desired, but is not out of characteristic for a midsize SUV.

Anti-lock disc brakes, full length side curtain air bags, stability control, and traction control are standard on all 2008 Dodge Nitros. The trailer sway away feature is a noteworthy safety control device that relates directly to the stability control. A five-star safety rating was achieved through front and side impact government testing.
