The exterior is an example of what this truck truly is: a half-ton full-sized pickup. Choosing from one of three body styles including the regular cab, quad cab, and mega cab that provides its consumer with interior room comparable to a sedan. Available trim packages include the ST, SLT, SXT, and Laramie, which each slightly differ in terms of exterior attributes. The ST base model features 17-inch steel wheels and a bare minimum of other trim accessories. Moving up to the SLT package, 17-inch steel wheels can be found along with a full range of other accessories including an optional sports package. If buyers opt for the mega cab, they can choose from the SXT and a series of interior trim perks. Laramie is the top of the line in terms of exterior and interior. This model features a sun roof along with 20-inch sports wheels.
Starting with the base model, standard interior features including the vinyl upholstery, tilt steering, and air-conditioning can be found. The SLT features many of the same interior attributes, but is only available with the mega cab offering a larger interior cabin space with a shorter cargo bed. The SLT is the next upgraded trim package available along with the sport package that adds newly-designed bucket seats to the cabin. Opting for the high-end Laramie is a sign that the buyer will take advantage of its leather upholstery, dual zone climate control, and top-of-the-line speakers and audio system.
Performance & Handling
New to this year is the revised 4.7-liter, V-8 engine that offers 310 horsepower and 330 lb-ft of torque. The V-8 is standard on the SLT and optional on the ST. When searching for even more performance and power, the 5.7-liter, Hemi V-8 engine will meet expectations and is a standard option on the SXT and Laramie. This upgrade makes the jump to 345 horsepower and 375 lb-ft torque.
Five stars were earned for the Dodge Ram 1500 in terms of front occupant protection and head on collisions according to government testing. Safety options tend to vary from model to model, but it starts with four-wheel disc brakes on the SLT and ST. Full side curtain air bags are also optional on all models along with stability control that is only standard on the Laramie.
