What's New

Dodge introduces a new Power Wagon package for 2005, which features electronic locking front and rear differential, and an electronic disconnecting front stabilizer bar. A 12,000-pound winch, 33-inch off-road tires, a two-inch taller stance, and a unique suspension are also included. The Cummins turbodiesel engine is updated for 2005 with a rating of an impressive 610 lb-ft of torque. A power sunroof and Sirius Satellite Radio are newly available in Quad Cab models.

Ram 2500 regular cab models have an eight-foot cargo bed. Built on a 140.5-inch wheelbase, it measures 229.7 inches long overall. Quad Cab models can be equipped with either a 6.3- or eight-foot cargo bed with a 140.5- or 160.5-inch wheelbase.

The 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 ST features 17-inch steel wheels, all-season tires, variable intermittent windshield wipers, chrome finish bumpers, and trailer wiring. Moving up to the SLT adds a chrome grille, 17-inch chrome wheels, remote power door locks, heated power mirrors, and power windows. The Power Wagon package adds 33-inch tires on 17-inch polished forged-aluminum wheels. Optional extras on both trims include skid plates and a trailer hitch receiver. The SLT’s available options include alloy wheels, front foglights, a rear window defroster, and a power moonroof.

The 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 boasts a remarkably car-like interior. Regular Cab models feature a 40/20/40-split front bench seat with 40.9 inches of headroom, 65.1 inches of hip room, and 41 inches of legroom. Extended Quad Cabs feature a full-size backseat that can fit three adults, although two would be more comfortable for long hauls. Quad Cab models also feature full-size rear doors, full-drop rear windows.

In the ST trim, standard interior amenities include vinyl floor covering and upholstery, front console with storage, front cup holders, front seatback storage and door pockets, a tilt-adjustable steering wheel, 12-volts power outlets, air-conditioning, and a four-speaker AM/FM CD-controller stereo. Quad Cab models have cup holders for the rear seats and a folding rear seatback as well. The SLT trim adds cruise control with controls on the steering wheel, a cargo area light, front reading lights and floor mats, passenger vanity mirror, a trip computer, compass, and an in-dash CD player. Optional extras on the SLT trim include power passenger and driver’s seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel, leather upholstery, a split-folding rear seat, heated front seats, and an upgraded seven-speaker stereo system.

Performance & Handling

The base engine on the 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 is a 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 that produces 345 horsepower and 375 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed manual transmission and rear drive are standard, and a five-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive are available as options. Upgrading to the 5.9-liter Cummins diesel, inline-six-cylinder engine brings 325 hp and an impressive 600 lb-ft of torque.
