The 1996 Dodge Stratus comes with three engine choices, two transmission choices, and two trim levels. Both models come standard with the two-liter four-cylinder engine. The base model can come with the optional 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine as an option, and the ES can have the option of either the 2.4-liter four-cylinder or the 2.5-liter V-6 engine. Both models come standard with the five-speed manual transmission with the option of the four-speed automatic.

The 1996 Dodge Stratus comes with a few new exterior colors this year. A power sunroof is also new and available as an option.
The 1996 Dodge Stratus comes with black body-side moldings, and an optional power sunroof. The ES also has alloy wheels and heated door mirrors as standard features, and the heated door mirrors are available as an option for the base model. Metallic paint is optional for both models, while power door mirrors are optional for the base model. A power antenna and full-size spare tire are available options for the ES.
The 1996 Dodge Stratus have front bucket seats and a split-folding rear seat with driver and passenger seats as two-way powered and cloth upholstered. Other standard features for both models include a full floor console, cargo light, manual air-conditioning, and an AM/FM/Cassette audio system. Features optional for both models include a smoker’s package and a leather steering wheel. The base model also comes with a tilt steering wheel and driver and passenger vanity mirrors, while the ES has power windows and illuminated driver and passenger vanity mirrors, which are available as options for the base model. A CD player and premium amplifier are optional for both models, while the ES has the additional options of a power driver’s seat and leather upholstery.
Performance & Handling
The 1996 Dodge Stratus is front-wheel drive with power steering standard. The ES comes with speed-sensing steering, while front and rear anti-roll bars come standard, and cruise control is an option for both models.
The 1996 Dodge Stratus include driver and passenger air bags, remote trunk/hatch/door release, variable intermittent windshield wipers, and a rear defroster. The brakes are front disc/rear drum brakes, which are anti-lock brakes in the ES and optional for the base sedan. The ES also comes with front fog lights, front reading lights, and power door locks. The reading lights and power door locks are optional for the base model. Remote keyless entry and illuminated entry are optional for both models. The ES also comes with the option of rear reading lights, a security system, and an integrated rear child seat.
