Hi. I’m Jason, Associate Editor and principal photographer for Automotive.com. You're reading this because I love cars, cameras, and words, and because I want you to love those things, too. Especially your next car. Though it'd be cool if you loved my photos and my words, too. To do that, though, you should know more about me.
Cars and I go way back, to the late-80s and early-90s at least, which isn't all that way back for some. Anyway, my becoming a car guy probably had something to do with riding shotgun in my old man's Acura NSX and listening to the inimitable rush of an 8,000-rpm redline screaming down the local mountain pass. From that moment on, I became obsessed with the noise a car makes when the red needle turns right. Today, very little pleases me more than shuttling my own children around town in my modified Subaru WRX Sport Wagon, and smiling as they mimic the turbine's addictive spool: "Whuum, psh!"
In my spare time, I support Angels baseball, independent craft breweries, and analog and alternative process photography. I also collect and shoot vintage film cameras, and develop, scan, and print black and white film in my home darkroom. In a previous life, I served for five years as an artillery observer in the Army's 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). As a combat-hardened soldier, I did a bunch of hooah infantry stuff, like jumping out of helicopters, kicking in doors, urinating off bridges, and learning to swear in Arabic. It's also where I learned to overcome adversity with the power of relentless sarcasm. Though I have happily walked away from that part of my life (the Army, not sarcasm), I bring from it a profound sense of honor and loyalty (and snark!) to my craft and my peers.
