Like many others, I had the luxury to grow up around cars. I was blessed to have a 1968 Camaro SS in my garage as a child, and can remember helping my stepdad wash and wax it before taking it out for a drive. For a short time, we were even graced with a 1971 Datsun 240Z. I called it the "dirt bag" as it was a major fixer-upper, but I was a young kid and it was before I knew what a gem that car really was. It was times like these that cars grabbed my interest and refused to let go. Along with cars, I've always been passionate about the written word, and went to school in Virginia at Sweet Briar College for my BA in Creative Writing. I'm surprised that some of my professors didn't give me more of a hard time for turning in essays and poems about the latest car releases or classics that I'd read about online or in magazines. Fortunately, I found a kindred spirit in one professor who gave me the latest car magazines when he finished reading them, so I could get my car fix. However, being a girl interested in the car industry has given me, and no doubt others like me, trouble. Many don't expect me to know much about cars other than "oh that one's so pretty" or "that one's really fast." I've had to earn my place in this industry as a woman. I've proven that I know what I'm talking about, whether it's a classic car, supercar, or everyday car. Although cars are a big part of my life, they aren't all of it. I enjoy traveling to new and exciting places, losing myself in a good book, and I am currently attending graduate school for my MFA in Creative Writing. Here at Automotive.com, I'm glad I've had the chance to combine my love of cars with my love of writing
