Show Your Car Some Love for Valentine's Day

Five ways to show your car you love it.

By Rss | February 14, 2013
    • The relationship you have with your car is important, and for Valentine's Day, don't you think it deserves some loving? From a tune-up to customizable accessories, we feel it's important for your car to know how much you care, even if it doesn't get that much special treatment during the rest of the year. Just be careful not to make your living, breathing Valentine jealous by spending all your time treating your car. Although the thoughts we came up with do show your car some appreciation, most of the ideas have a practical reason for being done. Making your car happy -- and you -- is just a wonderful side effect. Don't be afraid to show your car some love this Valentine's Day, whether with these suggestions or in your own way. It will appreciate you all the more and the ride of your relationship will be that much stronger.
    • Starting off our list, there's no better way to extend the life of both your car and the relationship you have with it than some loving services. Tune-ups are a great way to optimize your car's performance and keep it running smoother and longer for those times when you want to take a drive in your Valentine. Keeping your engine clean on the inside with an oil change helps to spread the love, keeping it clean and happy for the times when you need some cheering up. It's important to follow the manufacturer's maintenance schedule for your car to make sure it's running at the optimal level. Not only does regular maintenance improve fuel economy, it reduces the emissions from your car to the lowest possible level.

Along with good up-keep, new tires and checking the tire pressure monthly will help with the bumps along the road. After all, girls love new shoes. You don't want to leave the tires unchecked, because in the event of a flat or leak, you want to make sure you can patch up whatever life throws your way and strengthen the bond you already have. We all have a hard time remembering to check the tire pressure every month, but it's important. Even the spare needs to be checked, just in case it needs to be used in the event of a flat tire. Driving on a flat -- or almost flat -- tire will affect the ride, handling, traction, and safety, so mark one day each month on your calendar to do this.

Giving your car a great detailing will keep it looking good for days to come. A little TLC goes a long way to improve the overall feel and look of your car. Make sure to pay the extra few dollars for an interior detailing as well. A good wax job will leave your car sparkling and able to withstand the test of time, or weather conditions in the area you live. Detailing, although not necessary, is important for the upkeep of your car. Making sure your car is washed and waxed will help protect it from sun damage and other weather conditions it may be exposed to. Keeping the paint in good condition and making sure it doesn't get rusty or damaged can help the resale value stay at a price befitting a well-cared for car.

Once you've got your baby clean, keep it that way with a custom car cover. Don't just leave it out in the rain or snow, make it special and give it a personal touch your car can't help but love. Most importantly, don't go halfway and just throw a plastic tarp over it. Not only will this scratch the car's finish, it will also trap moisture underneath, potentially growing mold and ruining the finish. You can also enhance your car's appearance with vinyl graphics, or just a plain ol' bumper sticker. Although these have no bearing on the performance or handling or anything of the sort, it's important to make sure you're not putting any decals and bumper stickers in the way of your vision. We already have blind spots, let's try not to make them bigger than they have to be.

We've all heard the saying, "If you truly love something, set it free." If your car is to the point where it's better off going to greener pastures, then this is the ultimate act of love you can show it this Valentine's Day. Even if it may be the hardest thing you'll do all month, show your Valentine the respect and honor of a good send-off. Give yourself some time to get over the sadness before jumping in to a new relationship. There comes a time when your car will start sputtering, refuse to start, and at times, literally fall apart. This can be from neglect and overuse, but it can also mean that your car is old and is ready to be taken off the road. Just like you don't want to fail your car, don't let it fail you. Pushing it past its means is never a good idea, so just look out for the signs that maybe it's time to part ways.
