The 2012 Kia Sportage is the least expensive vehicle on our list but packs a ton of safety features for the price. Standard kit includes traction control, anti-lock brakes, hill assist control, and electronic brake-force distribution just to name a few. Thanks to the Sportage's size, it's one of the better handling crossovers currently available. It should be noted that only the all-wheel drive models earn the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's top rating. This option can be picked up for an additional $1,500 and with the price of the base Sportage, we don't think that's a bad idea. The front-wheel drive Sportage earned four out of five stars from the NHTSA. During IIHS crash testing, the Sportage earned a Top Safety Pick.
