2012 Ferrari 599 Review

It's the most expensive Ferrari for a reason

Reviewed by Automotive on

Do you like the 2012 Ferrari 599 as much as we do? The line starts all the way back there. Styling for the 599 comes straight from the legendary Enzo and gets the attention of everyone everywhere it goes no matter what they are doing. If you want to get the Ferrari you'll have to pony up some serious cash for this prancing horse as it's the most expensive made model with a price tag good for around $410,000.

A god-like 6.0-liter V-12 engine puts down a tire-peeling 612 horsepower and 448 pound-feet of torque. Mated to a six-speed manual or a 6-speed single-clutch automated manual gearbox, either way you'll have buttery shifting. A sophisticated suspension system puts the 599's handling in a class of its own. However the 2012 Ferrari 599 stays true to form for Ferrari with comfort coming up short of making a long road trip a reality. While the 458 Italia is a better car all around it is acceptable to lust after both. Don't drool on the paint though.

The Range

Body style: Coupe
Engine: 6.0-liter V-12
Transmissions: six-speed manual transmission, six-speed single-clutch automated manual transmission
Model: GTB Fiorano

What's New

No major changes or enhancements have been reported for the 2012 Ferrari 599.

The 2012 Ferrari 599 is a two-seat coupe dressed in one trim with standard features including 19-inch wheels in front with 20-inch wheels in the back wrapped in performance tires. Xenon headlights, carbon-ceramic brakes, and rear parking sensors are also standard. The Gran Turismo Evoluzione receives stiffer suspension and recalibrated shock-absorbers, a lowered ride height, high-performance tires, and an exhaust that sounds even throatier. Other standalone options include run-flat tires, front parking sensors, and a tinted gear window.

Because it's the most expensive Ferrari made means you don't have to settle for a cramped cabin or control knobs that are MIA. The 2012 Ferrari 599's seats are wrapped in premium leather and aluminum accents adorn the cabin. Leather of faux-suede is options for more accents and a carbon-fiber steering wheel adds a little F1 flavor. A knob on the steering wheel handles stability control and other suspension settings. The 599 is not the most technologically savvy Ferrari, with an infotainment system and other electronic features are running on older software and no HD radio is readily available.

Performance & Handling

A 6.0-liter V-12 engine is at the bottom of what pushes the 2012 Ferrari 599 down the road. Rated at 612 horsepower and 448 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels the 599 is mated to a regular six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed single-clutch automated manual.

Standard safety features on the Ferrari 599 include anti-lock brakes and stability and traction control. Side and side curtain airbags are optional.
