2008 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti Review

The perfect blend of exotic power and practicality.

Reviewed by Automotive on

The 2008 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti is a high-performance exotic coupe manufactured by Italian Automaker Ferrari. The Ferrari 612 Scaglietti was introduced in 2004, and the model was discontinued in 2011 to make way for its successor, the Ferrari FF. The 2008 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti is the second all-aluminum vehicle designed and manufactured by Ferrari.

The Range

Body Styles: two-door, 2+2 coupe
Engines: 5.7-liter V-12
Transmissions: six-speed automated manual
Models: Ferrari 612 Scaglietti F1 OTO

What's New

Introduced in 2004, the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti largely remained unchanged in terms of exterior design up until 2008. The new additions for the 612 come in the form of a new Bose Media system, Bluetooth connectivity, a multimedia package with high-end stereo, hard-drive based navigation system with 15GB of audio storage, and an iPod jack. Additionally, Ferrari’s One-To-One program offers a host of customization options.

Though strikingly beautiful, the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti lacks the punch of other cars from the Ferrari stable. One of the reasons for this drawback is that the 612 has not been redesigned since 2005. Based on a wheelbase of 116.1 inches, the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti measures 193 inches long overall, 77 inches in width, 52.9 inches in height, and weighs approximately 4134 pounds.

The HGTS package of the car includes colored brake calipers and a sport exhaust, while the HGTC package includes a chrome accent for the rear diffuser, unique wheels, and carbon-ceramic disc brakes. Space-saving spare tire kit and run-flat tires are optional inclusions. The Ferrari 612 Scaglietti has performance tires on 18-inch front wheels, while the rear 19-inch wheels.

The 2008 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti successfully breaks the stereotypical characteristic of a super car since the comfort and convenience features take a backseat in favor of peak performance. The car’s interior features the sumptuous use of leather in generous proportions. The 2008 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti comes with an impressive standard list of comfort features such as dual zone climate controls for the driver and passengers, a leather steering wheel, alloy and leather trim on the dash and center console, and leather trim on the doors. The car also has a tilt and telescopic steering wheel with all transmission controls located on it.

The interior offers storage in the front console to stash small items while travelling. The 2008 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti has one of the best in-car entertainment systems in the market. A Bose premium brand sound system with two subwoofers and nine speakers, as well as speed-sensitive volume control accompanied by an AM/FM in-dash single CD player are included in the package.

The vehicle has nine cubic feet of luggage space, which is eight times that of its closest competitor. The back seat is roomy for two occupants, with adequate headroom and legroom. The One-To-One program allows the buyer to sit in the Ferrari workshop with an expert who provides tips and guidance on color combinations, interior materials, and host of other things used to enhance the interior.

Performance & Handling

Powered by a 5.7-liter DOHC V-12 engine mated with a six-speed manual or optional or an F1 automated manual transmission, the engine cranks 540 horsepower and 434 lb-ft of torque, which gives the 2008 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti the ability to go from zero to 60 mph in just 4.2 seconds and reach top speeds of around 200 mph.

The F1 gearbox has a splendid shift quality that is further honed during performance driving. The light steering fitted in the 2008 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti offers extreme driving pleasure. The adaptive suspension system fitted in the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti absorbs a majority of the shocks, thereby leading to a comfortable and smooth ride.

The Ferrari 612 Scaglietti has an impressive list of safety features such as a four-wheel anti-lock braking system, tire pressure monitoring, a remote anti-theft alarm system, two front and rear headrests, front and rear height-adjustable headrests, stability and traction control, electronic brake force distribution, high-pressure washer headlamps, self-leveling headlights, and a xenon high-intensity discharge headlamp, to name a few.

Some customers may be disheartened to know that side airbags and side curtain airbags are not available either as standard or optional inclusions. However, Ferrari claims that occupants in the car are well protected even in the absence of such safety features.
