The 2010 Ford Edge mid-size crossover shares its platform with the Lincoln MKX. The Edge's crisp lines carry traditional Ford styling cues, particularly in the horizontal bar front grille.
The 5-passenger Edge comes in four trim levels, the SE, SEL, Limited, and Sportmodels; each is available with four wheel drive or all wheel drive. Our test car was the SEL all wheel drive model that came with optional 18-inch wheels, Panoramic Roof and rear spoiler.
The Edge is powered by a dual overhead cam 3.5-liter V6. It sends 265 horsepower and 250 pound feet of torque to the front wheels or available all wheel drive through a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Here are the highest and lowest EPA estimates for fuel economy:
The Edge provides almost 70 cubic feet of cargo space, incorporating split 60/40 fold-flat rear seats accessed electronically from the dash or by a manual release in the rear cargo bay. Heated, power, leather-trimmed front seats with memory are standard with leather also used on the tilt/telescoping steering wheel and rear seat trim.
A 6-disc CD changer resides in the front dash and the audio system includes an AM/FM/MP3 player with available options such as DVD-based navigation and rear seat entertainment systems, up-rated audio and Sirius Satellite radio.
Four-wheel antilock disc brakes are standard, as is Ford's AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control. Additional safety technologies include dual-stage front airbags, front-side impact airbags and rollover-protection extended-duration side-curtain airbags.
Base MSRP for the 2010 Ford Edge is $26,920. A range topping all wheel drive Sport model will start at $35,770. The Edge is backed by a 5-year, 60,000-mile powertrain warranty.
The 2010 Ford Edge crossover combines SUV features in a smaller, more manageable package that offers versatility, comfort and civilized open road driving manners.
