For 2008, the Ford Escape compact SUV gets a major design overhaul with new sheet metal and a more refined interior. However, the chassis and powertrain remain unchanged from previous years.
Trims are Base XLS Manual, XLS, XLT, and Limited. Standard equipment on all Escapes includes 60/40 split-folding rear seat, floor cargo hooks, and a more flexible, multi-level center console. New available features include a wet storage system in the back and audio input jack.
Engine choices, depending on trim are a 153 horsepower 2.3 liter 4-cylinder and a 200 horsepower 3.0 liter V6. Transmissions are a standard 4-speed automatic with overdrive and a 5-speed manual available with the 4-cylinder engine. Either two wheel drive or and four wheel drive is available on all Escape models.
Fuel Economy ranges from 17 miles per gallon city with the V6, to 28 miles per gallon highway in the 4.
Base MSRP is $18,770, while a Limited with full options will cost about $10,000 more.
With its first major redesign but tried and true mechanicals, the 2008 Ford Escape is a compact SUV that is both versatile and dependable.
