For 2010, the best-selling Ford Explorer continues as the cornerstone of Ford's SUV lineup.
The mid-size Explorer has two engine choices on all trim levels. The 4.0-liter V6 puts out 210 horsepower and is mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission. The more powerful 4.6-liter V8 produces 292 horsepower and is linked to a 6-speed automatic. Power is sent to the rear wheels, 4-wheel drive with low range, or available full-time all wheel drive.
Fuel economy for the Explorer ranges from 14 miles per gallon city, up to 20 miles per gallon highway.
Available trims are XLT, Limited, and Eddie Bauer Edition. All Explorers offer a long list of standard features. For options such as powered, adjustable pedals, quad bucket seats and a universal garage door opener; one has to opt for the Eddie Bauer or Limited.
The Explorer Limited has a 3rd row and seats up to 7, while the XLT and Eddie Bower trims seat 5.
Initial base MSRP for the 2010 Ford Explorer is $28,880. A V8 All wheel drive limited model with full options selected can cost as much as $47,000. The Explorer is backed by a 5-year, 60,000-mile power train warranty.
