What's New

Plenty happens to the F-150 family of trucks for the 2002 model year. This line introduces the King Ranch edition for the SuperCrew configuration. This edition features lighted visor mirrors with a HomeLink transmitter and recording device. Automatic climate control and an optional second-row bench seat come with the package as well. The Harley-Davidson version offers some special features too. It has a larger, more powerful engine in the form of a 5.4-liter Triton V-8. The base F-150 XL benefits from the addition of air-conditioning and a ULEV rating for its 4.2-liter V-6.

The 2002 Ford F-150 marks one of the best-selling vehicles on the road for a reason and its looks create part of the appeal. This truck appears attractively designed and features a prominent front end with a distinctive grille. Ford places its name in the center of grille. The chrome front bumper adds a manly, powerful look. The headlights have a rectangular shape. The F-150 comes in several color choices, including Bright Red, Black, and Oxford White.

Ford makes every attempt to make the inside of the F-150 series as comfortable as possible. New for the 2002 model year, the XL regular cab comes equipped with air-conditioning. Many of the options for these trucks depend on the trim level. The 2002 Ford F-150 comes equipped with either cloth or leather bucket seats in the front depending on the trim level. The larger cab configurations offer bucket or bench seating in the rear, again depending on trim level. Leather provides a popular accent for the upper trim levels.

Performance & Handling

Since popularity doesn’t always mean quality, the F-150 can be a tricky proposition. However, the 2002 Ford F-150 comes through with flying colors. It does well, offering a stable and comfortable ride both on and offroad. The steering seems a little high strung, but one can’t expect perfection. Regardless of the engine chosen, the F-150 offers plenty of power for the long haul. With the exception of being able to go offroad and haul and tow lots of weight, the F-150 drives much like a car, a luxury sedan even.

For the 2002 model year, Ford adds several standard safety features to the F-150. It includes four-wheel anti-lock brakes, front ventilated disc brakes and solid rear disc brakes, and electronic brake force distribution. Two front headrests come standard, as well, and help support the head and neck in the event of an accident. The passenger airbag comes equipped with a deactivation switch. Child seat anchors accommodate car seats and booster seats. The front center seat comes equipped with a lap belt. An engine immobilizer shuts the motor down if necessary following a crash.
