The 2003 Ford F-150 receives a lot of new options. A Heritage Edition of the XLT SuperCab model includes 17-inch wheels, a chrome cab step, and new styling. Also new to the line is the STX, XL, and XLT models for the regular and SuperCab models. The King Ranch model receives new fake wood trim.
The 2003 Ford F-150 comes in a variety of cab models. Available is a regular cab, SuperCab, SuperCrew, SVT Lightning, and Harley Davidson models. The exterior is very attractive with its smooth lines and big grille. The regular and SuperCab models can have 6.5- or 8-foot beds. The SuperCab models also have rear-hinged doors, a bit annoying since its now offers front hinged doors. However, buyers can upgrade to the SuperCrew that has front-hinged doors. The Lightning has a ton of different exterior features including a special front fascia, large fog lamps, and a lower body rocker extension. The Harley Davidson model has Harley branding and leather throughout.
The 2003 Ford F-150 on the regular cab and SuperCab models are equipped with a three seat bench or dual front bucket seats. The SuperCab bench seat adds a 60/40 split for more cargo room. The SVT lightning has a 60/40-split bench front seat covered with Nudo leather and Preferred Suede. An SVT logo is stitched into the back of the seat. The SVT also has special interior features such as brushed-aluminum finish on the inside door handles, turbo-boost gauge, and electro-luminescent instruments with white lightning faces and orange needles. The SVT is also equipped with a six-way power driver’s seat and power locks and mirrors.
Performance & Handling
The 2003 Ford F-150 has a variety of engine types available. The smallest engine is a 4.2-liter, V-6 engine that is paired with a manual or automatic transmission. The next engine is a 4.6-liter V-8 that produces 231 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque. The biggest engine in the bunch is a 5.4-liter, V-8 engine that creates 260 horsepower with 350 lb-ft of torque. The Harley Davidson model has a supercharged version of the 5.4-liter Triton V-8 that produces a whopping 340 horsepower with 425 lb-ft of torque. It is also a working vehicle. The towing capacity for those equipped with the 7700 Payload Group that increases the gross weight of the vehicle to 7700 pounds. Driving it is a bit like driving a big monster–from a distance it looks scary and up close it is terrifying. The looks don’t mean that the drive is scary as well. On pavement and city roads is nimble and confident. The engines provide a lot of extraordinary power. Steering can be a bit of a problem on long trips, which is the only real complaint.
The 2003 Ford F-150 is equipped with dual front airbags as well as four-wheel anti-lock brakes and child safety anchors. Not all models were tested by the NHTSA and IIHS, but those that were did not perform very well. The IIHS indicates that the models they tested don’t hold up well in frontal-offset crashes.
