Intro: For 2011, the Ford F150 has been given an extensive powertrain overhaul, improving this best-selling truck a mere two years from its last refresh. Four new engines deliver both superior horsepower and better fuel economy.
Trim levels are bolstered as well by the addition of the XLT Custom package and the return of the Lariat Limited. Extensive cab and bed options offer plenty of configurations, all riding on a fully boxed frame with hydroformed side rails. The result is a lighter, yet more rigid chassis, now with towing capacity of up to 11,300 pounds and a payload capacity of 3,060 pounds.
Performance: The base engine for the F-150 is now a 3.7-liter V6, making 302 horsepower. A new Ecoboost 3.5-liter V6 makes 365 horsepower, while V8 options include a 360 horsepower 5-liter V8, and a larger 6.2-liter V8 good for 411 horsepower and 434 pound-feet of torque.
Power is sent through a 6-speed automatic transmission to the rear wheels or available 4-wheel drive with low range. Limited and Harley Davidson edition models are available with all-wheel-drive. OMIT
Fuel Economy: Here are the highest and lowest EPA estimates for fuel economy:
Features: The F-150 is available in a large array of cab and bed configurations. We drove a well-equipped 5-passenger Super Crew King Ranch model (Omitted from Edit, Used footage of Limited Trim). While the overall length of the truck is nearly unchanged, Ford has managed to extend its Crew Cab model a full six inches. This makes for better rear legroom and more cargo space.
Safety: Standard safety features on the F-150 include front and rear antilock disc brakes, dual stage driver and passenger airbags, side curtain airbags, and AdvanceTrac Roll Stability Control.
Pricing/Warranty: Base MSRP for the 2010 Ford F-150 is $22,415. A fully loaded Super Crew model will top out at around $50,000. The F-150 is backed by a 5-year, 60,000-mile powertrain warranty.
Summary: With a pronounced, muscular exterior and totally improved powertrain lineup, the 2011 Ford F-150 is a comfortable yet hard-working truck with cab and bed configurations to suit just about any family or work crew.
