Ford designers clearly had a "Super" image in mind when they set out to pen the latest generation of their Super Duty Pick-up trucks. Everything about the design says, BIG and, RUGGED, from its body on frame construction to the available full size, four-door passenger compartment.
The front end features a large bold grille and hood that rise as a single element. Tow hooks are standard as is a massive chrome front bumper. The side view is dominated by oversize, telescoping side view mirrors, and 17-inch chrome-clad steel, or optional 18-inch forged aluminum wheels mounted with 275/70 R18 All Terrain Tires.
Available models are the F-250 Super Duty, F-350 Super Duty, or a dual rear wheel variant of the 350. Each is available in numerous trims and bed/cab configurations. Our test Crew Cab model in XLT trim came with the optional stowable bed extender and tailgate step as well as the factory-towing package that includes trailer brake control that allows for a towing capacity of up to 12,500 pounds.
The base engine for the Super Duty line is a 5.4-liter V8 that puts out 300 horsepower and 365 pound feet of torque. A 6.8-liter Triton V10 is available, putting out 362 horsepower and 457 pound feet of torque. Our test model came with the available 6.4 Liter turbodiesel V8. It cranks out 350 horsepower and an impressive 650 pound feet of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels or the "shift-on-the-fly" four-wheel drive system by way of a 6-speed manual or the optional 5-speed automatic transmission that came on our Super Duty.
Four-wheel anti-lock brakes are standard on all trim levels with large 13.66-inch diameter discs up front and 13.39 inch discs in the rear.
The Crew Cab provides two full-size rows of seats for up to six people. Rear seat passengers have a folding armrest and the 60/40-split rear bench seats can be folded to provide additional cargo space.
Our XLT Crew Cab came with an extensive list of options including an up-rated six CD AM/FM, 8-speaker sound system with MP3 player and a leather-wrapped, adjustable, multi-function steering wheel.
Initial base MSRP for the 2010 Ford F-250 Super Duty is $25,300. The price of a fully loaded F-350 Super Duty can top out at around $65,000. The Super Duties are backed by a 5-year, 60,000-mile powertrain warranty.
