Overview

If you seek plenty of options and lots of configurations to consider, the 2002 Ford Focus could be the right choice for you. It comes in several body designs including a sedan, hatchback, and wagon. Each body design features several trim levels to choose from as well. The Focus runs well and offers plenty of comforts in the cabin and in the ride. This reliable car pulls energy from a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine that packs plenty of punch for the small vehicle. The Focus makes a good choice for families or anyone looking for a dependable car with plenty of interior space.

What's New

Ford makes some changes to the 2002 Ford Focus family of cars. Four new models make their debut this year. The ZX5 hatchback (a five-door option), ZTW wagon, SVT hatchback, and Mach Audio ZTS comprise the new models. Other changes to the lineup include an optional power moonroof for any model as well as changes to specific models. The ZTS sedan loses its ABS and faux wood finish on the dash but gains a rear spoiler. A six-disc CD player comes standard on the ZX5, ZTS, and ZTW. It remains optional on all other models expect the LX sedan.

Exterior

With so many choices available for the 2002 Ford Focus it’s a bit difficult to focus on one body design. Overall the Ford Focus provides an attractive car option with a distinctive front end and grille. The Ford logo sits in the center of the grille and the headlights look uniquely shaped, adding a lot of character to the front of the car. Some trim levels, like the ZTS sedan, have a rear spoiler. The back-end design of the Focus depends on which body style the driver selects.

Interior

Again, the 2002 Ford Focus comes in so many different trim levels it can be a challenge to keep track of all of the options. These cars come equipped with bucket seats in the front of the cabin. From traditional cloth, to premium cloth, to leather upholstery Ford offers everything in the Focus. Cruise control and air-conditioning provide standard equipment, regardless of which trim level the driver selects. The mid-level Focus includes a four-speaker audio system with a built-in CD player.

Performance & Handling

With the Focus Ford focuses on creating a reliable, high-performing car. The 2.0-liter, four-cylinder motor generates 110 hp, though the ZX3 offers an impressive 170 hp from its engine. Regardless of the trim level or transmission style, the 2002 Ford Focus offers nice handling and a very comfortable ride. The four-wheel independent suspension system proves ideal for handling corners comfortably. The steering system responds quickly and offers the driver a great deal of information about what happens on the pavement.

Safety

It stands to reason that the 2002 Ford Focus includes plenty of standard features in terms of safety as well. Standard driver and passenger airbags come standard, with optional side airbags in some trim levels. Front seat belts come equipped with pretensioners for added security. The Focus also uses a three-point safety belt in the center of the back seat. Child seat anchors secure car seats and booster seats. The upper trim levels have side-bolstered front seats intended to keep the driver and front passenger more secure in the event of an accident.
