About the Ford Freestar
The 2004 Ford Freestar is known for its ability to carry up to seven passengers. The base S model comes equipped with a 3.9-liter OHV, 193 hp V-6 engine and a four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. It offers a fuel economy of 15/21 mpg city/highway. Front-wheel drive comes standard. The SEL and Limited models contain a 4.2-liter V-6 engine. 2004 models include the S, SE, SES, SEL, Limited, and Cargo.
Unfortunately, the Ford Freestar is not as popular as some competitors’ models. Sales figures remained low throughout production years. The Freestar doesn’t offer the mix of style, convenience, and performance that buyers want to purchase. Despite high marks for safety, the Ford Freestar never became a high-demand minivan.Ford Freestar Features
The base model 2007 Ford Freestar SE houses a 3.9-liter V-6 engine that produces 193 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque, as well as a four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. Standard equipment includes power steering and power brakes, a tilt steering wheel, remote keyless entry, power front windows, air-conditioning, and an AM/FM radio. The third row bench seat folds flat into the floor to make space for extra cargo. When the seat is in use, the deep well in the floor works well for stowing items.
The second row bench seat is standard; some models offer optional captain’s chairs. They slide horizontally on a track and fold forward to provide additional cargo space.
Standard equipment on the SE model also includes SafeCanopy side curtain airbags, AdvanceTrac electronic stability control, brake assist, a third row bench seat that can flip around for tailgate seating, manual climate control and an air filtration system, a tilt and telescoping steering wheel, power door locks and power front windows, an AM/FM/CD stereo with MP3 capability, cloth seats, power mirrors with integrated blind spot, halogen headlights, and an EasyFuel capless fuel filler.
The 2007 Ford Freestar performs well on NHTSA frontal impact test, receiving four stars for protecting occupants in the front; it receives five stars for rear passengers. In testing for side impact collisions, the van performs acceptably when equipped with side curtain airbags.
Ford Freestar offers different trim levels as well. However, trim levels were reduced to include the SE, SEL, and Limited beginning in the 2006 model year.
The SEL comes with the 4.2-liter V-6 engine, which produces 201 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque, and a four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. The Limited model comes with all of the standard features of the SEL model plus steering wheel mounted audio controls. Optional equipment on the Limited includes heated door mirrors, power sliding left and right rear passenger doors, turn signal indicator mirrors, a power liftgate, adjustable pedals, an auto-dimming rear view mirror, a cassette player, a DVD entertainment system, headphones, a trip computer, a reverse sensing system, traction control, brake assist, dual front side impact airbags, an overhead airbag, a security system, and stability control.
The 2007 Ford Freestar Cargo Minivan excludes rear seats to make it a light-duty vehicle for hauling cargo. Standard equipment on the Cargo model includes the 4.2-liter V-6 engine, a four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive, 16-inch steel wheels, dual front airbags, ABS four-wheel disc brakes, daytime running lights, an engine immobilizer, traction control, front air-conditioning, remote keyless entry, power mirrors, vanity mirrors, power locks and windows, power steering, cloth bucket seats, a tilt steering wheel, an AM/FM stereo (cassette/CD optional), and an interior auxiliary power outlet.
The 2007 Ford Freestar Cargo Minivan provides 90.9 inches of cargo length and 66.1 inches of width at the beltline. The cargo box width (at wheel housings) is 48.6 inches; height measures 49.5 inches. Total cargo volume (from rear to seat) adds up to 137.2 cubic feet.
All 2007 Ford Freestar models have a towing capacity of 3500 pounds. With an installed towing package (introduced in 2005), the Ford Freestar can transport people and cargo while pulling a boat, recreational vehicle, or utility trailer.
