The 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 is a powerhouse under the hood. It's also an impressive-looking vehicle, and while the interior isn't flashy or loaded down with too many fancy items, it is relatively comfortable. At this price point, the driver gets a lot for the money.

Available as a coupe or convertible, the Shelby GT500 comes standard with a rear spoiler, 20-inch painted alloy wheels, and high-performance tires. Other exterior goodies include a spare tire, a null spare wheel, and a tire repair kit.
Exterior options include a glass roof and a full-body cover to protect the Shelby from getting damaged when it can't be stored safely indoors. Without a doubt, the Shelby is a highly attractive sports car.
Interior & Cargo
The interior is rather unimpressive considering how highly decorated the exterior is, and especially considering how impressive the 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 is under the hood. Considering the other major selling points, though, the interior is more than adequate for the price. The interior comes in four trim options, all leather, and three of them including a racing strip interior.
Front seats are leather and sporty racing seats with six-way power controls and adjustable lumbar support for the utmost comfort. Rear legroom seems a bit lacking at 29.8 inches, but for a high-performance vehicle, this is a small tradeoff. Other standard features include powered windows, locks, and mirrors; cruise control; cup holders; and air-conditioning. There is alloy trim along the dash, and the steering wheel features leather and suede trim.
SYNC capabilities include turn-by-turn navigation and destination download, but these require a subscription or a mobile device ready to perform these tasks. A trip computer, clock, tachometer, and thermometer are all standard fare.
Interior entertainment includes an eight-speaker AM/FM/CD stereo system with MP3 capabilities. Sirius XM radio also comes standard with the 2013 Shelby GT500, and as a bonus, the first six months are free. While the interior isn't as flashy as the exterior might suggest, it does offer more than enough in the way of comfort.
The 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 comes loaded with standard safety features such as four-wheel anti-lock brakes, front and rear ventilated disc brakes, and electronic brakeforce distribution for incredible braking power. The post-collision safety system also activates brakes in an attempt to stop the car from continuing into other dangerous areas just after a collision.
The front seats feature front airbags with head protection chambers and side-mounted airbags for extra cushion. The head protection chambers are specifically designed to reduce the amount of damage more traditional airbags have caused. On top of this, the airbag deployment notification system can be set up to let someone know that the car has set off the airbags, which it does by sending a message to a designated cellphone of the owner's choosing. This helps keep everyone aware of what is going on in the event that an accident occurs. Also standard is a passenger-seat occupancy sensor that tells the Shelby GT500 if anyone is in the passenger seat during a collision and only deploys the airbag if it is actually needed, rather than automatically.
Lighting features include dusk-sensing headlights, front fog lights, and auto delay-off headlights designed to make it safer going from the car to the final destination. Other standards include stability and traction control to help keep the Shelby on the road. Headrests are available for all seats except the middle seat in the rear. A tire pressure monitoring system helps keep the owner up to date on the needs of his vehicle for optimum safety, performance, and fuel economy.
Other than the lack of a roof on the convertible model, the Shelby GT500 is extremely well loaded with safety-conscious equipment.
The short of it is that the 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 is a powerhouse of a coupe or convertible. The standard equipment is a 662-hp, 5.8-liter, V-8 engine, which produces a surprising 600 lb-ft of torque. The standard transmission is a rear-drive six-speed manual. The drivetrain also features a rear limited slip differential. Top speed maxes out at over 200 mph.
Other standard fair includes a sophisticated suspension system equipped with a MacPherson strut front suspension, solid axle rear suspension, front independent suspension, and front and rear stabilizer bars.
Fuel economy is not as low as all this power might suggest. The EPA estimated value is 15/25 mpg city/highway. With a 16-gallon fuel tank, the Shelby can make it anywhere from 240 miles to 384 miles on a full tank of gas.
Overall, the Shelby GT500 is nothing short of overkill, but for the speed and performance enthusiast, it is difficult to find a vehicle that outperforms the Shelby in this price range.
