The 2001 Ford Windstar has seven sub models each have a 3.8-liter, V-6 engine paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. The Windstar offers decent gas mileage despite its V-6 engine and has a very good safety rating, making it an ideal family vehicle. The different models make it an easily customizable minivan with a style for everyone.

What's New

Updates have been made to the exterior and interior styling as well as in the powertrain. A new transmission improves shift quality and the 3.8-liter, V-6 engine is standard on all 2001 Ford Windstar models.


Standard features for all 2001 Ford Windstar models include a rear step bumper, window grid antenna, sun visor strip, lift gate cargo door, fixed rear window, and dual power mirrors. Light tinted windows are standard on the base and both LX models. Deep tinted windows are standard on all other models, and optional on the aforementioned models. The base and LX models come with 15-inch steel wheels, the SE Sport comes with 15-inch machined alloy wheels, and the SE and SEL models come with 16-inch silver alloy wheels. The Limited comes with 16-inch brushed alloy wheels.


Standard features for the 2001 Ford Windstar include front bucket seats, driver and passenger armrests, and manual air-conditioning. The base model seats two, while the other models all seat seven. Cloth upholstery is standard on all models except for the SEL and Limited, which have leather upholstery. The rear seats are bench seats, except for the SE, SEL, and Limited, which have captain rear seats. All 3rd row seats are full-bench seats.

The Windstar includes a dome light with delay, retained accessory power, power front windows, and an AM/FM audio system. The LX and SE Sport come with an AM/FM/Cassette audio system, the SE and SEL come with an AM/FM/Cassette/CD audio system, and the Limited comes with an AM/FM/CD audio system.

Performance & Handling

The 2001 Ford Windstar is a front-wheel drive vehicle with a front strut suspension and torsion beam rear suspension. There is an anti-roll bar in the front and the steering is rack-and-pinion steering. Coil springs support both front and rear suspensions and front and rear shocks are gas pressurized. Traction control is standard on the Limited and optional on all other models except for the three-door LX.


The 2001 Ford Windstar received five out of five stars from the NHTSA for frontal impact and four out of five stars for side impacts and rollover resistance. The IIHS gave this vehicle a good overall rating.

Standard safety features for all models include Anti-lock Brake Systems (ABS), driver and passenger front airbags, adjustable front and rear seatbelts, and front seatbelt pre-tensioners. Side impact bars, a center high mounted stop light, Securilock ignition disable, rear child safety door locks, and power door locks are also standard.

This vehicle also warns the driver when the oil pressure, battery charge, fuel level, washer fluid level, brake fluid level, or tire pressure reach unacceptable levels. The driver is also notified when the lights are left on, when the keys are left in the ignition, when a door is left open, and when a bulb has failed.
