Spied numerous times so far, the Fiat 500 convertible is just about ready to be revealed to the world, as these naked shots would suggest. Spotted in Sweden in production-ready form without any camouflage, the drop-top version of the diminutive hatch sports fixed roof sides, with the canvas top covering only the center of the car. It’s an unconventional design but this is, after all, an unconventional car.

Like the hatch, the convertible should be offered with a 68-hp, 75-lb-ft 1.2L I-4, a 99-hp, 97-lb-ft 1.4L I-4, and a 74-hp, 107-lb-ft 1.3L four-cylinder turbodiesel. It's not known if an Abarth version is planned. Regardless, add one more model to the list of cars we hope come to the U.S. as the result of the nascent Fiat-Chrysler alliance.

Expect to see more details on the open-air 500 on Feb. 16, with an expected reveal at the 2009 Geneva show next month.
