The Grand Prix G-Force concept went beyond dressing up the current model to offer an early look at the 2004 Grand Prix in show-circuit guise. With the newfound Pontiac edict to emphasize handling, the G-Force takes the "Wide Track" approach to achieve a centrifuging 0.85 g of lateral acceleration. Road holding is bolstered by four-channel StabiliTrak dynamic control system and electronic-controlled struts. A modified 3.8-liter supercharged V-6 produces 280 horsepower, making the car capable of reaching a 155-mph top speed and putting its performance in the arena with Euro sport sedans.

No coy statements or whispered hints accompanied the Sunfire unveil, just the assurance that slight cosmetic and base powertrain upgrades would carry the aging front-driver another couple years until a replacement model could be slotted into production. Most noticeable change for 2003 is to the front fascia and headlamps, though the rear has also been freshened. Underhood, a 2.2-liter/140-horsepower Ecotec I-4 brings an increase to base performance while delivering up to 33 mpg. Other additions for the upcoming model year include a 60/40-split seat, new instrument panel, XM Satellite Radio, and OnStar.

Beyond these core car lines, there are sporty coupes under consideration to fill the void left by the Firebird, such as the Solstice coupe/roadster and the rumored rear-drive GTO project. Regardless of the heir to the musclecar throne, the strengthened mainstream product line will ensure excitement reigns under the Pontiac banner.
