Bentley Shooting Brake W12

The days of Rolls-Royce derivatives are over

Hot on the heels of Bentley's shapely new Continental GT ("First Look," September 2002), Volkswagen AG's new luxury marque is looking at more variants. Though a long-wheelbase sedan version will be first up, a more intriguing spinoff may be the Shooting Brake (the British nickname for a sport wagon).

If given the green light, expect the GT's 500-plus-hp twin-turbocharged 6.0L W-12 to propel all four wheels. The transmission would be a paddle-operated six-speed automatic. The GT's suspension is a multilink rear with a double-wishbone front and electronic damping, so expect that in the Shooting Brake, as well.
