For 2006, the Volkswagen New Beetle gets its first significant facelift since its 1998 launch and a new standard engine, the 150-horsepower, 2.5-liter inline-five. Traction control is now standard with the Electronic Stability Program. Sheetmetal changes include slightly sharper body lines, especially at the wheel wells, and updated bumpers. Headlamps are larger and more oval, and taillamps are new. The interior freshening includes new air vents and an instrument cluster with chrome applications. With this facelift, the news is that there are no set plans to phase out the New Beetle--yet.
