There's an Edge competitor in Ford's future. It's this Dodge, codenamed JC49 and built on the longer Dodge Avenger/Chrysler Sebring version of the GS platform that also underpins the Dodge Caliber and Jeep Compass.

The JC49 is a crossover sport/utility with two rows of seats to combat the just-released Ford Edge. Engines are likely to be the 2.7-liter and 3.5-liter V-6s and, if needed, the 2.4-liter four (though V-6-only options would compete more directly with the Ford).

About a year after the JC49's late 2007 release, Chrysler division will get its own version to replace the Pacifica crossover.
