Fourth Place: 2008 Infiniti G37 Coupe

By Stuart Fowle
2008 Infiniti G Coupe Sketch

While Infiniti's only news at this year's Detroit show was a refreshed interior for the juggernaut QX56, they released this New York show preview sketch before media days even ended at Cobo Hall. What you see here is a teaser sketch of an all new G coupe due to go on sale at the end of this year. From the looks of it, the design hasn't changed much from the concept version (below, right) shown in 2006. We've always loved the current coupe because of its pit bull-like stance, and our only concern for this new car is that its design has gone from rabid to refined; please, Infiniti, don't turn the G into a Lexus.

Interior layout and materials should make huge leaps forward, and we're excited to see how Infiniti tops the origami paper-inspired aluminum trim of the G35 sedan. There's also some speculation about what numbers will follow "G" on the car's decklid. Infiniti trademarked the name "G37" earlier this year, but don't rule out a smaller, turbocharged motor. We recently investigated the issue, asking an Infiniti rep if the name might have a "T" at the end. "We do have letters in our parts bin," he replied.
