Your watching a WheelsTV Top200 new vehicle test drive on the 2006 Hummer H2.
The Hummer you see here is the 2006 H2 SUT-or Sport Utility Truck-and it's the result of taking the Hummer H2 SUV, opening up the cargo area into a pickup bed, and attracting a different kind of Hummer customer.
Every Hummer H2 SUT is powered by a General Motors 6-liter V8 that produces 325 horsepower and 365 foot-pounds of torque.
Needless to say, the Hummer is the all-time champion of off-road capability with generous ground clearance, ample approach and departure angles, and a rugged body-on-chassis construction that can handle anything the terrain can dish out.
The pickup bed is separated from the interior space by a power-operated partition. When that mid-gate is closed, the pickup bed is good for 30 cubic feet of cargo capacity. With the mid-gate open, that figure climbs to 56 cubic feet.
The H2 SUT is available in only one body style and one trim level, but there are two comprehensive option packages to choose from: Adventure and Lux. Before you get to those options, dual-zone automatic climate control, a driver information center and GM's On Star system, along with power everything and keyless entry are all standard. Adventure package options include a self-leveling rear air suspension system, an upgraded audio system, carpeted floor-mats, tool and first aid kits, and a front brush guard.
The Lux package doesn't include the air suspension but does add leather seating, a chrome appearance package, and tubular side steps. Stand-alone options include heated front and rear seats, an overhead light bar, and DVD-based navigation system.
The manufacturer's suggested retail price on the 2006 Hummer H2 SUT is $52,485 and that Lux option package we mentioned comes in at around $3700 if you want your Hummer maxed out.
There's nothing routine about the H2 SUT, and the massive size and unique ergonomics definitely make it an acquired taste. But if you want the biggest bad boy in the neighborhood, this is the ride for you.
