2011 Hyundai Azera Review

Great value but not much of a standout

Reviewed by Automotive on

In a Nutshell
The 2011 Hyundai Azera is a full-size sedan with high-quality materials usually found only in more expensive cars. Powered by a 3.8 liter V-6 engine or the 3.3 liter V-6 engine paired to a six-speed automatic transmission, the Azera rides and drives like a highway cruiser and has a cabin that is luxurious for a vehicle of this class.

Possessing a level of luxury that is more like a car costing much more, the Hyundai Azera has a quality look and feel. The cabin is quite spacious and is filled with many soft-touch surfaces. The rear seats provide plenty of comfort for adult-sized passengers with ample legroom and headroom. The safety features are much above average and the fuel economy is in the 20 mpg city/28 mpg highway range.

New for 2011

For 2011, the Hyundai Azera gets an all-new six-speed automatic transmission and more power in each V-6 engine: the 3.3-liter gets 26 more horsepower for a total of 260, and the 3.8-liter gains 20 horsepower for 283 in all. It also gets a new grille, bumper, headlights, fog lights, and a refreshed rear end. Other minor changes are redesigned 17-inch alloy wheels and new upgrades in the cabin.

Trims: GLS Sedan, Limited Sedan

On the Outside

The 2011 Azera has a front end that now looks fresher and crisper. The side lines above the rear fenders end up being the most distinctive design cue on this model.

From the Inside

In the GLS, cloth eight-way power seats are standard, while the Limited gets leather, heated seats. Wood and metal grain accents adorn both trims, and the center console has changed from grained metal to smooth.

Driving Performance

Although the Azera isn't meant to have a sport sedan's performance, it has relatively little body roll and the ride is quite comfortable. It is powered by a 3.3-liter V6 engine that produces 260 horsepower and 233 pound-feet of torque or a 3.8-liter V6 engine that produces 283 hp and 262 pound-feet of torque, paired to a six-speed automatic transmission is standard.

Safety Equipment

Standard safety equipment on the Hyundai Azera includes four-wheel disc brakes with ABS and electronic brake-force distribution. Also standard are brake assist, traction control, and stability control. Eight airbags dual front, driver and front-passenger side-impact, rear side-impact, and front/rear side-curtain airbags finish out the Azera's standard safety equipment.

Gas Mileage

3.3L: 20 mpg city/28 mpg highway
