2007 Hyundai Entourage Review

Plenty of luxury features and safety equipment make this a valuable minivan.

Reviewed by Automotive on

Overview

The 2007 Hyundai Entourage is a new vehicle from the car manufacturer, and is the first minivan to be produced by Hyundai. It can carry up to seven passengers across three rows of seating and shares its design with the Kia Sedona. In fact, the 2007 Hyundai Entourage is just a rebadged version of the Kia Sedona.

There are three different trim levels for the 2007 Hyundai Entourage, which have been named in the same way as the rest of the Hyundai vehicles. The three are the base GLS, the mid-level SE, the top of the line Limited version. As with other Hyundai vehicles, even the base model of the 2007 Hyundai Entourage is equipped with plenty of features and safety equipment.

The Range

Body Styles: four-door minivan
Engines: 3.8-liter V-6
Transmissions: five-speed automatic
Models: Hyundai Entourage GLS, Hyundai Entourage SE, Hyundai Entourage Limited

What's New

The 2007 Hyundai Entourage serves as a brand-new vehicle for Hyundai, but it isn’t a new vehicle on the road. While the Entourage marks the first minivan produced by Hyundai, it represents a rebadged version of the Kia Sedona, which remains in its second generation and has been in production since 1998.

Exterior

The four-door Entourage minivan offers one wheelbase length only. Unlike the Kia Sedona, the 2007 Hyundai Entourage only comes in an extended-length version. Hyundai makes this decision to avoid competing with its own Hyundai Veracruz crossover SUV, which would be the same length as a short-wheelbase version.

Depending on the trim level, the rear doors and tailgate may be power-operated. With the base GLS model, none of the doors offer power-operation. The SE and Limited versions have power sliding rear doors, and the Limited has a power tailgate as well. The GLS sits on 16-inch wheels, while the SE and Limited versions both use 17-inch alloy wheels. A sunroof brightens up the Limited model.

Interior

The interior provides plenty of room, as well as many standard luxury features, to ensure a comfortable ride for passengers. Even in the base model of the 2007 Hyundai Entourage, many standard features maximize comfort. Also, the third row of seats splits 60/40 and folds flat into the floor, allowing for a great deal of versatility when it comes to exploiting space for passengers and cargo.

Models offer plenty of legroom in all three rows of seats, particularly as the second row slides forwards and backwards to provide the best possible layout depending on the passengers in the minivan. Headroom gets tight, especially in the third row, making this row better for children than adults. To maximize cargo space, drivers can remove the second row of seats, but this seems difficult due to the weight of the seats.

Performance & Handling

All 2007 Hyundai Entourage models contain a 3.8-liter, V-6 engine that provides 242 horsepower and 251 lb-ft of torque. The minivan comes with front drive only, and it uses a five-speed automatic transmission with a manual shift gate.

Ride quality feels good and relatively smooth. Acceleration from a stop also seems good, although at speed, the 2007 Hyundai Entourage lacks the thrust needed for passing and maneuverability on the highway. Handling and steering are adequate for a minivan. Also, as with most minivans, passengers feel significant body lean when it corners.

Safety

For all models of the 2007 Hyundai Entourage standard safety equipment includes anti-lock brakes, electronic brake assist, traction control, stability control, a tire pressure monitoring system, active head restraints in the front seats, front side airbags, and full-length side curtain airbags. For the Limited model only, rear parking sensors and adjustable pedals provide options. In both front- and side-impact crash testing, the 2007 Hyundai Entourage receives perfect scores.
