Infiniti FX35

The Infiniti FX35 is a midsize crossover SUV that was first introduced in 2003 and discontinued in 2010. The FX35 is unique amongst midsize SUVs in that it features the styling and performance of a sports car. The first generation of the vehicle was produced until 2008. The second generation of the FX35 was introduced in 2009 and continued until the vehicle's discontinuation the following year. Throughout its run of production, Infiniti offered the FX35 in a single trim level.

About the Infiniti FX35

A crossover SUV with the looks of a concept car, the Infiniti FX35 provides drivers with the muscle of a sports car and the utility of an SUV. The Infiniti FX35 also boasts interior and exterior styling that's hard to match. However, while the FX35 offers more in terms of performance and style than the typical crossover SUV, it does so (to an extent) at the expense of practicality. While the FX35 handles like a sports sedan, it lacks the cargo space and versatility offered by many similar midsize crossover SUVs.

Infiniti FX35 Features

The Infiniti FX35 was completely redesigned in 2009. Therefore, in its final year of production, it received only minor updates. Like past versions of the vehicle, the 2010 FX35 comes in a single trim level. However, the one trim level offers a generous array of standard features. These include 18-inch alloy wheels, xenon headlamps, foglights, heated exterior mirrors, keyless entry/ignition, a power liftgate, leather upholstery, power accessories, cruise control, power front seats, and a manual tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel. Other standard features include dual-zone automatic climate control, a back-up camera, Bluetooth connectivity, and a Bose surround sound system equipped with 11 speakers, satellite radio, a six-CD changer, and an auxiliary audio USB connection.

A 3.5-liter V-6 engine powers the 2010 FX35 with 303 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. The sole transmission option is a seven-speed automatic with manual shift control. Rear drive comes standard; however, Infiniti offers an all-wheel drive option. AWD systems on the 2010 FX35 come equipped with rear bias in order to maintain the sports car handling ability the FX35 is known for.

While the 2010 Infiniti FX35 may only come in one trim level, there are options available for several additional features packages. These include the Premium package, the Deluxe Touring package, the Navigation package and the Technology package.

The Premium package adds heated and ventilated front seats, driver set memory, quilted leather seating, and a power tilt-and-telescoping steering column. The Deluxe Touring package includes 20-inch alloys, maple wood interior trim, alloy pedals, and a tonneau cover. The Navigation package boasts such features as front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree parking camera system, and a hard-drive-based touchscreen navigation system. The Technology package features rain-sensing windshield wipers, adaptive cruise control, Distance Control Assist, adaptive headlights, and a lane-departure warning and prevention system. The Technology package also offers drivers the option of a back-seat entertainment system.

Perhaps in part due to its sport model influences, the 2010 FX35 lacks back-seat room and cargo space. While in its standard configuration, the FX35 is only capable of handling 25 cubic feet of cargo, but by folding the rear seats down, the vehicle's storage capacity increases to 62 cubic feet. Reviews indicate that the 2010 FX35 provides athletic handling capabilities and powerful, smooth acceleration.

Infiniti FX35 Evolution

The first generation of the FX35 was introduced in 2003. Like the second and final version, first generation models are available in a single trim level only. Early models contain a 3.5-liter V-6 that produces 275 horsepower. Transmission options include only a five-speed automatic. Other standard features at the time include traction control, stability control, and anti-lock disc brakes.

First generation versions of the Infiniti FX35 boast luxuriously appointed cabins, while maintaining the feel of a sports car. Gauges are attractively laid out and set off by aluminum trim. The front seats offer power adjustment, and the rear seats recline. Additional interior features include dual-zone climate control, cruise control, HID headlights, and a six-speaker stereo with a CD player.

Optional features for previous models of the FX35 include an improved Bose audio system with 300 watts of power and 11 speakers. A Sports package offers 20-inch wheels and a sport-tuned suspension. The Technology package for early models of the FX35 includes Intelligent Cruise Control, a navigation system, and a Lane Departure Alert system.

Improvements to the FX35 over the years include the introduction of side curtain airbags in 2005 and a better stereo system in 2006. In 2006, Infiniti also made a number of exterior style revisions and added new standard features such as leather upholstery, a power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, and a rearview camera.
