2012 Infiniti G25 Review

Serious BMW 3 Series alternative

Reviewed by Automotive on

The 2012 G25 returns to Infiniti's lineup after its introduction last year, expanding the model's range beyond the G37. The G25 has a 2.5-liter V-6 engine producing 110 fewer horsepower than the G37's V-6, but it also gets better fuel economy and costs less money, allowing more frugal shoppers the chance to have the Infiniti driving experience.

While the bigger brother G37 pumps out 328 horsepower, the G25 offers an alternative to those who are looking for style and luxury without the horsepower. The G25 also comes generously equipped in a segment where many don't look for the price tag. No matter which G sedan you opt for, luxury and sporty performance will be present. Deciding between how much of each feature you want will bring you to the right G sedan.

The Range

Bodystyle: Sedan
Engine: 2.5-liter V-6
Transmission: seven-speed automatic
Model: G25 Sedan, G25 Sedan Journey, G25x Sedan AWD

What's New

After joining Infiniti's stable in 2011 there are no major changes made to the 2012 G25.

Both the G25 and G37 keep the long, wave-like hood and athletic stance that Infiniti's coupes and sedans are known for in 2012. The front grille and headlights remain the same after the refresh for the 2010 model year. Fog lights can also be found upfront and high intensity discharge headlights carve a path up ahead in the dark. The sweeping roofline is also present on the coupe and sedans along with sharp, expansive bodylines. LED taillights alert drivers behind that you are coming to a stop and a chrome spoiler sits atop the trunk lid. Dual exhaust tips peek out from underneath the rear bumper giving the G25 a sporty appearance along with 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels.

Standard interior features include leather-appointed seating, aluminum trim, and an automatic temperature control system. Other features include a six-speaker sound system, XM satellite radio with real time traffic and weather updates. Bluetooth enables music to be streamed and Zagat provides a restaurant guide when out perusing for food. There is also a 7.0-inch color monitor touch screen with voice recognition and RearView Monitor, Bluetooth hands-free phone system and Brake Assist with Preview Braking are also available.

Performance & Handling

The G25 drums up motivation from a 2.5 liter V-6 engine which produces 218 horsepower and is mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission. The G25 can also be configured in both the standard rear- or all-wheel drive among the three models offered. Fuel economy is expected to be at 20/29 mpg with rear-wheel drive and drops to 19/27 mpg with the all-wheel-drive system.

The G25 comes standard with anti-lock brakes, front and rear head airbags, dual front side-mounted airbags, and child seat anchors. Other safety features include rear door child safety locks, an emergency interior trunk release, driver and passenger head restraint whiplash protection, and a tire pressure monitoring system.
