2001 Infiniti I30 Review

Stylish, comfortable luxury sedan that makes a great family car.

Reviewed by Automotive on

The 2001 Infiniti I30 represents the second year of a new generation for this luxury sedan. The previous model introduces a more powerful V-6 engine along with an engine redesign to lower friction and improve accuracy. It also provides computer-assisted and speed-sensitive power steering as well. The 2001 Infiniti I30 continues the trend, with these features plus a few more.

The 2001 Infiniti I30 comes in two trim levels. The Luxury, which provides plenty of bells and whistles, and the higher-performance Touring.

The Range

Body Styles: luxury sedan
Engines: 3.0-liter V-6
Transmissions: four-speed automatic
Models: Infinity I30 Luxury, Infiniti I30 Touring

What's New

Infiniti made the big changes to the I30 the following year, when it unveiled a new generation of I30s, but it still leaves a few features for those looking to update in 2001. These include the addition of new exterior colors (Midnight Blue and Royal Ruby), audio and cruise controls on the steering wheel, an antiglare rear-view mirror, and blue xenon headlights on both the Luxury and Touring.

The exterior of the 2001 Infiniti I30 features 16-inch alloy wheels with null tires on the Luxury edition and 17-inch alloy wheels on the Touring. Both models feature a power glass sunroof and a power rear sunshade.

The interior of the 2001 Infiniti I30 comes well equipped. It seats five comfortably and provides an eight-way power leather bucket seat for the driver with lumbar support and memory settings for two drivers. Riders get four-way power seats, the 200-watt BOSE audio, and automatic climate control. A remote universal transmitter activates your garage from inside the car (standard on the Touring model). A Birdview navigation system and a trunk-mounted six-disc CD changer also provide options, along with an emergency assist system.

Performance & Handling

p>The new computer-aided power steering highlights the 2001 Infiniti I30. It increases the power to make lower-speed driving situations like parking easier, while pulling back to give you more resistance at higher speeds when you need a better feel for the road. Another highlight concerns the three-liter V-6 that generates 227 horsepower and 217 lb-ft of torque.

Along with the handling benefits of the computer-assisted power steering system, the 2001 Infiniti I30 features multi-link beam rear underpinnings, front and rear stabilizer bars, and a front independent suspension. Traction control remains optional, and with the Touring you enjoy even more performance and handling benefits, such as a limited-slip differential and sport-ride suspension.

The 2001 Infiniti I30 includes plenty of safety features, such as four-wheel ABS with ventilated front disc and solid rear disc brakes, automatic front headrests which adjust to protect you in case of a rear-end collision, and emergency inner trunk release. Other standard safety features include front head and dual front side-mounted airbags, a remote anti-theft alarm system, an engine immobilizer, electronic brakeforce distribution, and front seat belt pretensioners.
