1996 Infiniti J30 Review

Luxury sedan with a sporty design and solid performance.

Reviewed by Automotive on

The 1996 Infiniti J30 offers the luxury of a midsize sedan with the performance of a sports car. The standard 3.0-liter V-6 packs quite a punch, delivering an impressive performance on the road, able to go from zero to 60 in just 8.3 seconds. The rounded shape was novel at the time of introduction, though its unique looks managed to catch on with the competition in the ensuing years. It comes in the base model and the Touring model. Both models offer a long list of excellent standard features. The Touring is designed for better performance and comes equipped with an upgraded suspension and a rear spoiler.

What's New

The 1996 Infiniti J30 gets three new exterior colors this year.

The exterior styling of the 1996 Infiniti J30 is nothing to get too excited about. Designed to be a departure from the traditional ""wedge"" shape of the luxury midsize sedan, it offers a rounded shape with sleek lines, and a somewhat sporty design. It also features 15-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry system, and tinted glass.

The 1996 Infiniti J30 is a beautiful car inside, sporting leather seats and an ergonomically-designed dashboard. Some of the many outstanding interior features that come standard include an AM/FM/cassette audio system with Bose speakers, power windows and door locks, leather bucket seats, leather steering wheel and shift knob trim, power sunroof, air-conditioning with automatic climate control, heated front seats, power driver and front passenger seats, power heated mirrors, cruise control, and steering wheel audio controls. The front seats are comfortable, but the rear seating is a bit cramped for adults, offering just 36.7 inches of rear head room and 30.5 inches of leg room.

Performance & Handling

Equipped with a perky, 3.0-liter V-6, the 1996 Infiniti J30 performs reasonably well, offering solid power and acceleration ideal for zipping through city traffic. The engine performs at 210 horsepower, reaching 60 mph in 8.3 seconds from a stand still. However, Shifting is smoother at high speeds.

Safety features for the 1996 Infiniti J30 include an anti-theft alarm system, driver and passenger front airbags, and four-wheel anti-lock brake systems (ABS). The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the car four stars out of five on passenger crash tests and also four stars on driver side impacts.
