Infiniti M37

The Infiniti M37 is a mid-luxury sedan, manufactured, and sold under the Infiniti luxury brand of Nissan Motors. The car belongs to the Infiniti M series of sedans that have been in production since 2002. The Infiniti M sedan is actually a continuation of the Infiniti M30 coupe that Nissan produced from 1990 to 1992.

Infiniti M37 Origins

The Infiniti M30 is a two-door coupe that shows similarity to successful Nissan sports cars such as the Skyline, 240SX, and 300ZX. The car did not enjoy popularity during its production, so Nissan halted its production after two years. However, the Infiniti M30 currently has a cult following in the U.S. and Japan.

The Infiniti M sedan series launched in the U.S. market in 2002 with the M45. This model allowed Infiniti to use the 4.5-liter V-8 engine that it previously only used for the Infiniti Q45. The second generation of the M sedan began in 2005, and the M35 debuted with a 3.5-liter V-6 engine. This generation met with universally positive critical reception as well as commercial success. The third generation began in 2011 with a complete redesign of the Infiniti M series and the introduction of the Infiniti M37 with a 3.7-liter V-6 engine.

About the Infiniti M37

The Infiniti M37 is part of the completely redesigned Infiniti M series of sedans. Its design derives many elements from the Infiniti Essence concept car and, more interestingly, luxury cars such as Maserati and Jaguar. The public previewed the M37 in 2009 at the Annual Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance before Nissan introduced it in California. It went on sale on March 1, 2010 as the 2011 model.

The Infiniti M37 and other third generation Infiniti M series models market as a part of the highly competitive midsize luxury sedan market. This market includes other competitors such as the Audi A6, Hyundai Genesis, Jaguar XF, BMW 5 Series, Acura XL, and Cadillac STS. While the Infiniti M37 is quite powerful, it lacks the interior refinement and ride quality that its competitors provide. The redeeming feature of this sedan is its exquisite shape and exterior styling.

Infiniti M37 Features

The Infiniti M37 is currently in its second model year, showing no significant changes from the introductory 2011 model year. A 3.7-liter V-6 engine delivers 330 hp of power to the Infiniti M37, and it couples with a seven-speed automatic transmission gearbox. The sedan can be driven in four shift modes: Eco, Snow, Sport, and Normal. The shift timing is not consistent, and gearshifts are often punctuated by jerky motions. The vehicle comes with rear drive as a standard. However, another version of the sedan, the Infiniti M37x, comes with all-wheel drive.

The exterior of the Infiniti M37 has a redesign from the previous generation, and the new shape has a drag coefficient of 0.27. Other exterior elements found in all models of the Infiniti M37 include rain-sensing wipers, polished rear exhaust, HID headlights, and a power moonroof with UV ray-deflecting solar glass.

On the inside, the Infiniti M37 comfortably seats five passengers, and leather seating comes standard. The dashboard and other elements have a Japanese Ash wood trim. Other standard features on the inside include dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, and Bluetooth connectivity. One of the most prominent features of the Infiniti M37 is the seven-inch information screen at the center of the dash, which comes standard on both the M37 and M37x.

Apart from the standard features, the Infiniti M37 can be fitted with certain optional features, such as the blind spot warning system, the lane departure warning system, and the Infiniti Voice Recognition system. Two optional Bose stereo systems come as options on the sedan.

The Infiniti M37 remains quite nimble for its size, thanks to its powerful engine and sporty suspension. The car can turn corners aggressively, and its performance can be enhanced with the Sports package. This package includes 20-inch wheels, four-wheel active steering, a specially modified chassis, magnesium paddle shifters, sport seats, unique cabin trim, and aluminum pedals. While the performance of the Infiniti M37 is praiseworthy, the ride quality remains surprisingly unrefined for a midsize luxury sedan.

Another optional package for the Infiniti M37, the Technology package, offers the eco pedal that pushes the driver’s foot back whenever the car determines it is not being driven economically.

The well-executed cabin of the Infiniti M37 offers a welcome change from the substandard cabin of the previous generation. However, it still doesn’t live up to the cabins found in other luxury cars, especially those of the Jaguar, Mercedes Benz E-Class, and Audi. The Infiniti M37 delivers just about average mileage for its class, with an average of 22 mpg (18/26 mpg city/highway).

2012 Infiniti M37

Luxury, Sedan

The M37 is the flagship of the Infiniti brand, aimed at giving the German luxury automakers a run for their money.

2011 Infiniti M37

Luxury, Sedan

Virtually every aspect of the 2011 Infiniti M is new, including fresh styling inside and out, more powerful engines, improved fuel efficiency, and more technologically advanced features. Resembling a plus-sized G sedan, the M is quicker, thanks to a 330-horsepower V-6 and 420-horse V-8, yet, with a standard seven-speed auto, more fuel miserly. Infiniti’s Forest Air air-conditioning feature and blind-spot intervention raise the technology bar.
