1995 Isuzu Trooper Review

Suburban chariot and offroad tank.

Reviewed by Automotive on

The 1995 Isuzu Trooper provides a very flexible and versatile sport utility vehicle that has options and performance that allow it to perform quite well in almost all situations. The Trooper has good off-road and roadway performance. In addition, depending on model selection, the Trooper can make an excellent and comfortable suburban cruiser or utilitarian off-road vehicle.

The wide model selection creates a varied offering for the Isuzu Trooper. Low-end models, like the Trooper S, offer little in the way of internal amenities. However, these low-end models offer the same performance as their more expensive counterparts. As a result, the lower-priced options are good off-road vehicles that lack much in the way of comfort. However, the upper-end models, including the Trooper Limited, offer many of the features that come standard in luxury vehicles. These more expensive Troopers still perform very well, but the extra cost gives them a more comfortable experience.

Any driver looking at an SUV, regardless of preferences or usage, should give the Isuzu Trooper a try. With the wide model range and array of optional features, Isuzu generally offers a Trooper for any driver’s needs.

The Range

Body Styles: SUV
Engines: 3.2-liter six-cylinder
Transmissions: four-speed automatic, five-speed manual
Models: Isuzu Trooper S, Isuzu Trooper RS, Isuzu Trooper LS, Isuzu Trooper SE, Isuzu Trooper Limited

What's New

Dual airbags now provide a standard feature in the Isuzu Trooper. Retuned suspensions provide a smoother ride. The 1995 Isuzu Trooper Limited receives some minor cosmetic alterations to the interior.

The 1995 Isuzu Trooper serves as a fairly large SUV, measuring in at 183.5 inches long, with a wheelbase of 108.7 inches. It uses a four-door body design. A power antenna, a power moonroof, power heated mirrors, and skid plates provide standard features. Alloy wheels and a roof rack remain available as options.

The Isuzu Trooper has a huge model range in terms of interior accessories. Lower-end models remain very minimalistic, while upper-end models almost categorize as luxury vehicles. For example, the only standard feature in the Trooper S remains an AM/FM radio and cassette player. However, the 1995 Isuzu Trooper Limited comes standard with power leather seats, keyless entry, power windows, power locks, leather trim, air-conditioning, a cassette player, a CD player, and privacy glass.

Performance & Handling

The Isuzu Trooper proves almost equally adept at driving on roadways as offroad. The Trooper offers decent acceleration for a vehicle of its size and can turn reasonably well. The 1995 Isuzu Trooper’s versatility comes at a slight price though. It remains less effective offroad than some of the more dedicated, performance-oriented SUVs and it proves less effective on roadways than many passenger vehicles. However, the Trooper’s versatility means drivers should feel just as comfortable in both types of driving, a benefit which few specialized vehicles offer.

Dual front airbags and rear-wheel anti-lock brakes provide standard features on the 1995 Isuzu Trooper. Four-wheel anti-lock brakes remain available as an option on all models and come standard on the higher-end Troopers. Similar to the closely related Acura SLX, the rollover issues for the Isuzu Trooper get occasionally exaggerated. The Trooper is not noticeably more prone to rollovers than other SUVs and proves unlikely to do so outside of major accidents or if the driver intentionally tries to roll it over.
