The 2001 Isuzu Trooper remains one of the oldest SUVs on the market, and while Isuzu has brought plenty of other entries into the SUV field since, it has always made an effort to keep the Trooper up with the times. For the Trooper, Isuzu starts with a durable truck. It offers reliability and handles harsh off-road conditions. From there Isuzu adds elements to improve utility, comfort, and style.
One of the downsides to the Isuzu Trooper concerns its lack of toughness. The Trooper puts up little resistance to low-impact crash damage, so even small ?dings? can lead to big repair bills.
The 2001 Isuzu Trooper comes in three trim levels: S, the basic package; LS; and Limited.
Body Styles: four-door SUV
Engines: 3.5-liter V-6
Transmissions: four-speed automatic, five-speed manual
Models: Isuzu Trooper S, Isuzu Trooper LS, Isuzu Trooper Limited
For 2001, Isuzu offers an Anniversary Package in honor of the carmaker’s 85th year. The anniversary package features an Isuzu Trooper in Pearl White paint, including alloy wheels with Pearl White highlights, chrome side steps, a Nakamichi sound system and a leather and wood grain trim.
The exterior of the 2001 Isuzu Trooper showcases 16-inch alloy wheels with a rear-mounted, full-size spare tire, along with painted bumpers, skid plates, and a rear barn door. The Limited throws in a leather interior and a power moonroof along with a two-tone paint job and 12-spoke alloy wheels.
One of the most appealing aspects of the 2001 Isuzu Trooper for many stems from its roominess, for both passengers and cargo. This truck carries 90 cubic feet of cargo with the rear seats folded down, and few other SUVs in its class carry as much or more. The Trooper also offers plenty of legroom for rear passengers.
The interior of the Trooper offers Captain’s chair front seats with velour, plenty of legroom, a folding center armrest, and front and rear cup holders. With the Limited edition, buyers get heated driver and passenger seats, a leather interior, an eight-way power driver’s seat, and a four-way power passenger seat.
Performance & Handling
The Trooper offers rear and four-wheel drive with rear limited-slip differential and front independent suspension. A 215-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 produces 230 lb-ft of torque. The 2001 Isuzu Trooper features a 3.5-liter, 24-valve, DOHC V-6 with Isuzu’s signature Torque-on-Demand traction control, designed to sense when the Trooper needs more power to the front or rear wheels and adjust accordingly. A five-speed manual transmission remains available on the base S only.
In addition to the four-wheel ABS, safety features on the 2001 Isuzu Trooper include front and rear ventilated disc brakes, front and rear headrests, cornering lights, an engine immobilizer, electronic brake force distribution, rear-door child safety locks, and child seat anchors.
