Entering its final year of production, the 2008 Jaguar S-Type has very few additions. A majority of the additions and tweaks in the 2008 Jaguar S-Type are cosmetic. The standard wheels of the 3.0 and 4.2 models are upgraded to 18-inches, while the R model wheels are upgraded to 19-inches. The 3.0 and 4.2 models sport the bumper design that was earlier exclusive only to the S-Type R model.
Based on a wheelbase of 114.1 inches, the 2008 Jaguar S-Type measures 193.1 inches long overall, 81.1 inches wide, stands 57 inches tall, and weighs approximately 3968 pounds. The Jaguar S-Type is mainly praised for its classy exterior styling. The company has not upgraded the design of Jaguar S-Type for years. Thus, the 2008 model features the same age-old design characteristic with a few cosmetic enhancements.
The exterior design of the 3.0 and 4.2 versions adopt some design characteristics from the high-end R version. The S-Type R model’s bumpers along with its mesh grille and quad-oval headlamps and a range of new wheels add more flair to the overall look of the 3.0 and 4.2 models.
The interior of the 2008 Jaguar S-Type has not received any enhancement treatment like the exterior. The interior looks quite dull in comparison to modern standards. The wide center console in front is space hogging, making the front seating uncomfortable for occupants. The back seating arrangement offers much less legroom and headroom. The back seats can be uncomfortable for bigger adults.
The 2008 Jaguar S-Type is equipped with a good list of comfort and convenience features such as interior air filtration, a leather and wood steering wheel, an electro-chromatic inside rearview mirror, a leather and wood trim on the center console, doors and dash, dual-zone climate control, wood trim on the shift knob, and front and rear reading lights.
The car is also equipped with good telematics features such as Bluetooth wireless data link for hands-free phones and DVD-based display with voice directions navigation system.
Performance & Handling
Powered by a V-8 engine mated with six-speed automatic transmission, the Jaguar S-Type offers adequate power and performance that will satisfy most car enthusiasts. The V-6 engine fitted in the base model is lacking in performance and dampens the spirit of those expecting a superior performance that is generally a characteristic of Jaguar vehicles.
The chassis lacks liveliness, which is the main characteristic of a German sedan. The electronic suspension absorbs the shocks and bumps of the road, effectively rendering a comfortable, smooth ride.
The 2008 Jaguar S-Type is equipped with a generous list of safety features such as standard six airbags for all models. Other notable safety features offered in the Jaguar S-Type are a remote anti-theft alarm system, engine immobilizer, self-leveling headlights, head-restraint whiplash protection system for the driver and passenger, two front and rear headrests, electronic brake force distribution, stability and traction control, and front and rear-ventilated disc brakes.
