- Handles Well
- Smooth Ride
The Jeep Patriot is a compact SUV originally introduced in 2007. It has that unique and unmistakable look of a Jeep and looks a lot like its stable mate the Wrangler, but with room and comfort! I got mine in green, a good off-road color. And, off-road, in keeping with the Jeep tradition, is where this vehicle really shines. It has the optional 4-wheel drive with the CVT (continuously variable transmission) which comes with a solid 2.4 liter engine four cylinder engine. I'm not a rock climbing driver, but I do enjoy off-roading on old out of the way un-maintained dirt roads in the hills and the mountains. It handles these roads with aplomb, comfortably and stably. For the really steep hills, the Hill Descent control is automatically engaged, no feet on the pedals required; this works well on icy steep paved roads as well. On pavement, the ride is adequate, if not particularly exceptional. Highway driving is fine, albeit a little noisy. Handling is what you might expect from a vehicle with the off-road heritage of the make, not awe inspiring but nimble nonetheless. The interior is very spacious, plenty of legroom for both front and rear passengers. Cargo room is more than sufficient for this class of SUV and access is easy. Interior design and instrumentation are okay, but reasonable for the price of the vehicle. If you like the traditional Jeep look and enjoy having a vehicle that handles off-road excursions well, yet want a little room and comfort, this is the SUV for you. I get a kick looking at it every day, and the price I paid makes me more than happy.
