Intro: The 2012 Jeep Patriot 5-passenger compact SUV blends a smooth carlike ride with Jeep-level versatility, and when properly equipped, Trail-Rated off-road capability. The Patriot is offered in trims including the base Sport, Latitude and the rang-topping Limited.
Features: Our test model came with a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel. Toggles on the wheel provide access for the trip computer with compass, ambient temperature readouts and controls the upgraded stereo- a CD/MP3/DVD unit. This optional stereo has a 30GB hard drive that can store up to 6,700 songs.
Performance: The base engine for the Patriot is a 158 horsepower 2-liter inline four. Uprated models get a 172 horsepower 2.4-liter inline-4. Power is sent to the front wheels or available four wheel drive, through either a 5-speed manual or a pair of available CVT transmissions.
