2008 Kia Amanti Review

A sound buy for the price.

Reviewed by Automotive on

The Kia Amanti is an upscale family sedan that comes with a plentiful assortment of standard and optional features. Some of the benefits of the Kia Amanti are that it is quiet on the highway, has plenty of space in the interior, and is an acceptable value for the amount to be invested. The Amanti comes equipped with a 3.8-liter V-6 engine. Stability control and traction control are both optional and will affect the purchase price. Front head airbags and side-mountain curtain airbags that protect from collisions from the side are included.

The Range

Body Styles: four-door sedan
Engines: 3.8-liter V-6 with a double overhead cam
Transmissions: five-speed shiftable automatic
Models: Kia Amanti Sedan

What's New

Since the Kia Amanti was completely remodeled in the 2007 model year, there are no changes made this year.

The chrome grill gives oncoming traffic a nice view of the 2008 Kia Amanti. The 16-inch wheels are painted alloy and mounted with all-season tires. The inside mounted spare tire is a temporary tire, not a full size all-season tire. The rear window is equipped with a defogger to clear away any frost in the winter or fog that accumulates during humid weather.

The interior is roomy for three passengers, and the backseat is capable of holding three, giving it a maximum capacity of five people including the driver. The driver’s seat is eight-way power adjustable to help the driver stay comfortable when controlling the vehicle. The front passenger seat is four-way adjustable so that he or she can also stay as comfortable as possible. The front seats are velour bucket seats, and the front passenger seat can be folded flat for extra cargo space. The rear of the cabin has ventilation ducts to supply the rear passengers with fresh air on long rides and to keep them cool when the air-conditioning isn’t on. The pass-through center armrest has a storage area for rear passengers to store goods. The power lock doors can be controlled remotely. The four windows are also powered as are the side mirrors. The side mirrors are also heated to avoid bad visibility. This vehicle comes with power steering and remote trunk release. Twelve volt outlets are available in the front and in the rear to power any electronics the passengers need or want to use. The audio system is simple with an AM/FM radio and an in-dash single disc CD player equipped with eight speakers. The audio controls can be found on the steering wheel with the cruise control.

Performance & Handling

The 264-horsepower V-6 engine is rated to put out 260 lb-ft of torque. This car uses a five-speed automatic transmission that comes with automatic shift control. The acceleration is not bad for a large sedan with the car going from zero to 60 mph in under seven seconds. The ride is both smooth and very quiet. When driving at high speeds, this car sometimes gives its passengers a feeling of floating. The engine delivers enough horsepower to compete with other sedans in town or on the highway. The shifting is adequate for merging onto the highway with other traffic or attempting to pass on a two-lane road. When dealing with a quick-shifting and 264-horsepower engine, the Amanti passes most other large sedans.

The list of safety features isn’t extensive but is enough to keep everyone on board safe. It's installed with four-wheel anti-lock brakes. The front disc brakes are ventilated to prevent overheating, and the rear disc brakes are solid. The brake system is also equipped with electronic brake force distribution to keep the braking smooth and balanced. This vehicle has dual front and rear side curtain airbags in addition to the driver and passenger head airbags in the front. The headlamps are dusk sensing so that oncoming traffic can see the Amanti coming even when the driver does not think it is dark enough to use them. The rear center seat has a three-point belt to keep the rear middle passenger safe. The tires have a pressure monitoring system installed to warn the tire of low air pressure before any tires blowout.
