Overview

A 1.6-liter I-4 with 130 hp and 119 lb-ft of torque is the only engine available in the 2018 Rio and it can be paired to either a standard six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. The manual, however, is only available on the base LX trim. EPA fuel economy ratings are 29/37 mpg city/highway for the manual and 28/37 mpg with the automatic.

There's 13.7 cubic feet of trunk space in the Rio sedan, and 60/40 split-folding rear seats is available on the S or EX grades. Should you need more cargo space, hatchback offers 17.4 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row and 32.8 cubic feet behind the front seats. Additionally, all variants of the Rio hatchback come standard with 60/40 split-folding rear seats.

The base 2018 Rio LX trim comes with 15-inch steel wheels, cloth upholstery, six-way adjustable driver's seat, a four-speaker audio system, a 5.0-inch screen and a USB port. Move up to the S trim and that adds a rearview camera, Bluetooth connectivity, additional USB ports, cruise control, keyless entry, and a six-speaker audio system. On the range-topping EX trim, the Rio adds on 15-inch alloy wheels, a 3.5-inch multi-information display, automatic emergency braking, Kia's UVO3 infotainment system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration, and a 7.0-inch touchscreen. The only option available is the Red Accent Leather package, which is only available on the EX trim.

Safety

Automatic emergency braking and forward collision warning is standard on the EX trim.

Cool Fact

Alongside the Forte, the Rio is produced in Kia's new manufacturing facility in Mexico.
