Now one of the last minivans left in the U.S. market, the Kia Sedona remains a value play among family vehicles. As with most minivans, the Kia Sedona offers clever solutions that add extra versatility, including a third row that folds into a tub below the floor of the cargo area. What We Think

The Kia Sedona is one of the older minivans in its segment, but the family hauler wins some points with its comfortable first- and second-row seats as well as its extensive creature comforts in SX guise. Kia's minivan also offers pleasant driving dynamics, with good body control and a supple ride. The powerful V-6 engine provides good power, too, and doesn't feel lacking when you accelerate.

One of the Kia Sedona's main shortcomings is the way the second and third rows operate when you need to move them around. They're bulky to stow and limit the minivan's flexibility. The second row in particular can't be removed except for the center position, making the Sedona less family-friendly than competitors like the Chrysler Pacifica and Toyota Sienna.

Performance and Fuel Economy

The 2021 Kia Sedona is powered by a 3.3-liter V-6 with 276 hp and 248 lb-ft of torque. An eight-speed automatic is the only transmission offered. EPA fuel economy ratings are 18/24 mpg city/highway, a bit lower than others in this class.

Safety

The 2021 Kia Sedona received a five-star overall rating from the NHTSA (out of five stars).

Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on the EX and SX trim. Lane departure warning, forward collision warning, front automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, driver attention alert, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control are part of an option package in the EX grade or standard on the range-topping SX trim.

Cargo Space and Towing

When all seats are up, the 2021 Kia Sedona has 33.9 cubic feet of cargo space. Folding the third row into the tub under the cargo floor increases capacity to 78.4 cubic feet. Total capacity with the third row folded and the second row pushed into the back of the front seats is 142.0 cubic feet. Towing capacity is 3,500 pounds when properly equipped.

Technology

The base 2021 Kia Sedona LX gets a 7.0-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and a six-speaker audio system. An 8.0-inch touchscreen, built-in navigation, an eight-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, and a rear-seat entertainment system are offered on the SX trim.
