The 2010 Land Rover LR4 is the successor to the outgoing LR3. Although almost identical in appearance, the LR4 is very much an upgrade over the prior model. The new interior is attractively redesigned and incorporates a new dashboard layout which provides all the technology a luxury vehicle purchaser would desire. An effort has been made to improve on-road drivability over the LR3 by stiffening front shocks and dampers. The result is improved feel of the road and an overall better on-road comfort level than its predecessor. Although not top in class in driving comfort, the changes have put this one in the mix of its luxury SUV peers in this category. Of course, the real strength is it's off-road capabilities. This car continues in a long line of strong off-road performers in the Rover SUV family. The vehicle is extremely capable in off-road and mixed terrain settings. The 4-wheel drive underpinnings provide sure driving in such environments and conveys a strong sense of security to its driver. A fast, comfortable and off-road capable SUV does have it's trade-offs. At nearly 3 tons, it suffers from poor gas mileage and is not going to be compared to the agility of a sports sedan when driving on the streets, as on-road handling is not a strength. Furthermore, historically Land Rover (and it's more expensive brethren the Range Rover) have suffered from poor reliability. All in all, this car is a comfortable, capable and luxurious SUV which is a significant upgrade to it's predecessor. It competes well with with the other vehicles in its class and provides a superior off-road experience.
