Lexus CT 200h

The Lexus CT 200h offers up a sporty take on the traditionally utilitarian compact hybrid segment. A low stance and unique suspension system provide the luxury four-door hatchback with sharper than usual handling, while its hybrid electric engine allows for one of the highest fuel economy ratings in its class.

Lexus CT 200h Origins

Based on the LF-Ch concept car, the Lexus CT 200h made its debut at the Geneva Auto Show in spring 2010. Sales of the globally-marketed vehicle soon began in Europe and Japan, reaching North America by 2011.

Power for the Lexus CT 200h is generated by a 1.8-liter four-cylinder gas engine combined with a duo of electric motors/generators, the same system that powers the Toyota Prius. The combined powertrain produces a total 134 horsepower, which is transferred to the CT 200h’s front wheels through a continuously variable transmission.

Engine emissions can be eliminated by activating the vehicle’s EV mode, which engages only the electric motors. Multiple driving modes and a combined MacPherson strut and double wishbone suspension provide greater athletic abilities than a typical hybrid.

The CT 200h shares a platform with the Toyota Corolla and Toyota Matrix.

About the Lexus CT 200h

The Lexus CT 200h is known for its combination of impressive fuel economy, sporty features, and premium appointments.

As of 2012, the CT 200h hybrid enjoyed a combined fuel economy of 42 mpg. A lowered stance and the pairing of a MacPherson strut front system with a double wishbone rear suspension is intended to improve handling in the vehicle. A standard adaptive automatic transmission allows drivers to switch modes. Opting for the Sport mode provides added responsiveness and tighter steering, while engaging the EV mode maximizes efficiency by drawing on battery power alone for short distances.

The Lexus CT 200h comes standard with a number of premium features, including a leather-trimmed steering wheel, voice activated controls, Bluetooth connectivity, and rear seat climate control. While it retails at price not much different than rival four-door compact hybrids such as the Audi A3, the CT 200h could provide an affordable choice for a buyer hoping to enter the luxury vehicle market.

Lexus CT 200h Features

The 2012 Lexus CT 200h is available in a base and premium trim level, both powered by the same 1.8-liter four-cylinder hybrid engine.

Standard features on the base CT 200h model include dual-zone climate control, push-button start and stop, leather-trimmed steering wheel, chrome-capped shift knob, 10-way powered driver’s seat, 6-speaker premium sound system with CD player, Bluetooth technology, satellite radio accessibility, Drive Mode Select shifting choices, and steering wheel-mounted audio and display controls. Upgrading to the Premium trim adds a power sunroof with sliding shade and heated front seats.

A multitude of options packages are available with the Premium trim. The Navigation Package comes with an advanced navigation system with voice command, remote touch screen, real-time traffic display, destination assist, a backup camera, and enhanced Bluetooth technology. The package adds a 10-speaker premium sound system, auto-dimming mirror with compass, and a universal transceiver capable of operating garage doors, gates, home lighting systems, and security systems.

As of 2012, two new F Sport special edition packages were also available for the CT 200h Premium. Both packages feature 10-spoke alloy wheels with dark graphite finish, graphite metallic dash, a sport-tuned suspension, extended rear spoiler, aluminum F Sport pedals, F Sport steering wheel and fender badges, and a leather-trimmed shift knob. The F Sport Package with NuLuxe comes with black synthetic leather interior, while the F Sport Package with Leather adds black leather with white perforated trim.

Individual options on both trims include a sway bar kit, lowering spring set, remote engine starter, bamboo dash, and a glass breakage sensor. Premium-only upgrades include auto-leveling LED headlamps, an auto-dimming inside mirror with compass and backup camera, and a pre-collision system with adaptive cruise control.

The CT 200h measures 170 inches in length and 69.5 inches in width. Inside the car, front seat passengers receive 38.9 inches of head room and 42.1 inches of leg room while back seat passengers get 37.1 inches of head room and 32.8 inches of leg room. Rear cargo capacity is 14.3 cubic feet, though the rear seats can be folded flat for additional space. The Lexus CT 200h is available in seven standard exterior colors and one special color (Ultrasonic Blue Mica) unique to the F Sport package.

Lexus CT 200h Evolution

The 2011 Lexus CT 200h features most of the same features as the 2012 edition, most notably a 1.8-liter 134-horsepower Toyota engine, a base and premium trim level, and a transmission that allows drivers to shift between an emission-reducing mode and sport mode. However, the 2011 model lacks a few new technologies that were later added in 2012.

2011 models were not yet available with the F Sport special edition packages, which allow buyers to upgrade to features such as a sport-tuned suspension and unique upholstery. Also lacking is an audible warning system introduced in 2012 to alert cyclists and pedestrians to the approaching CT 200h.
