2004 Lexus ES330 Review

A quick and luxurious midsize sedan with impressive safety ratings.

Reviewed by Automotive on

The Lexus ES series classifies as a midsize luxury sedan introduced in 1989 and still in production today. All models have a four-door body style with a front-engine, front-drive layout. The 2004 Lexus ES330 provides an upgraded version of the ES300 available through the fourth generation, which included models in production from 2001 through 2006. The numbering system used by Lexus refers to liters. The 330 uses a 3.3-liter V-6.

The ES series has been the recipient of a range of awards. The 2004 ES330 enjoys a reputation for a smooth and quiet ride like most of the Lexus lineup, plus high safety ratings and good performance.

What's New

Lexus only makes a few changes for the 2004 Lexus ES330, including power lumbar adjustment for the passenger seat, larger side-impact airbags, and a maintenance indicator light.

The 2004 Lexus ES330 classifies as a midsize sedan with a sharp front end dominated by the Lexus grille and logo in the center and the wraparound headlight clusters on either side. The body and rear use gradual and sculpted curves for an aerodynamic, if somewhat typical, overall design. Some features include high-intensity discharge headlights which use auto-leveling technology, rain-sensing wipers, and an optional Adaptive Variable Suspension system. The ES330 comes with 16-inch aluminum-alloy wheels.

The ES330 seats five comfortably. It has California walnut wood and leather trim throughout the interior. Some features for the 2004 Lexus ES330 include heated and auto-dimming power mirrors, automatic dual-zone climate control, air filtration, a premium sound system, a power rear sunshade, a choice of a wood or leather steering wheel, optional heated front seats, optional adjustable brakes and accelerator, and DVD-based navigation.

Performance & Handling

The 225-hp, 3.3-liter V-6 in the 2004 Lexus ES330 produces up to 240 lb-ft of torque. It uses a five-speed automatic transmission that Lexus says operates with intelligence to maximize performance and fuel efficiency. The ES330 has a drive-by-wire throttle system and the V-6 engine meets Ultra Low Emission Vehicle standards.

The ES330 has a smooth and quick feel and handles very well while also providing a very comfortable and quiet ride.

Some safety features for the 2004 Lexus ES330 include anti-lock brakes, electronic brake force distribution, side-impact airbags in the front, front and rear curtain airbags, three-point seat belts in all positions, optional Vehicle Skid Control for electronic stability, and with this option Brake Assist for emergency braking situations.
