2005 Lexus ES330 Review

Maintains high luxury standards with great ride quality and plenty of extra features.

Reviewed by Automotive on

Midsize sedans are some of the most loved and widely available cars on the current entire automobile market. They can easily bring together high fuel efficiency, smooth handling, and suitable passenger and cargo space. It is common for these vehicles to be most trendy among young professionals and recent college graduates. However, the luxury midsize sedan class has a much broader reach to include almost everyone but very young drivers.

The 2005 Lexus ES330 is a perfect example of where Lexus truly excels as a manufacturer. Since there are so many midsize options on the market, it is rather difficult to stand out of the crowd. Lexus manages to pull the ES330 out of the mass of competition through the flawless integration of luxury with highly smooth drive-ability. The sheer look of the ES330 is enough to make anyone stop and double back. The strong base is added to a number of convenience and luxury features, advanced safety technology, amazing ride quality, and the Lexus reputation for reliability. It is true that the ES330 is a staple entry-level midsize luxury sedan. The only real drawbacks for the vehicle are in the form of the high Lexus price tag and somewhat bland driving traits.

What's New

The ES330 is one of the crowning jewels of the Lexus lineup, and it receives the perk of minor alterations with moderate frequency. The 2005 model gets some added polish to make sure it can stay ahead of the competition. Revisions on the exterior styling include a new front and rear design with updated lighting and trim. Also, standard 17-inch wheels are newly available in either chrome or alloy finish. Color modifications and new wood availability keep things fresh. A memory function is now applied to both the driver and front-passenger seats, with the option of both front seats being heated and ventilated. The 2005 model also sees the debut of a revised steering wheel with auxiliary audio controls in addition to voice activated technology for the optional navigation system.

One of the primary selling points of the 2005 Lexus ES330 is its highly fashionable and stylish exterior appearance. Even from the beginning, this vehicle has set itself apart with impressive body design and luxury finish. It strongly embraces the prestige laid down by its predecessors in terms of looks. This midsize luxury sedan has a very aerodynamic shape. Sharp contour lines are very evident in the front with chiseled character lines running down the sides of the body. A few narrow body gaps help to add to the car's precise look. A one-touch moonroof is part of the standard package for increased luxury.

The ES330 has a maximum occupancy of five passengers, and there is ample room for everyone. Both front seats are power adjustable with the new memory feature, and leather upholstery is standard for all seating. The elegance of California walnut trim adds to the look of luxury as it is applied to the center console and on all four doors. The list of standard equipment is very long. Auto-dimming heated power mirrors, automatic dual-zone climate control with air filtration, one-touch up and down power windows, a CD player, and a HomeLink programmable garage-door opener are all included in the standard package.

Performance & Handling

The 2005 Lexus ES330 is powered by a 3.3-liter, V-6 engine that can produce 225 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque. A five-speed automatic transmission diverts power to the rear wheels of the vehicle with no option for a manual gearbox. An Adaptive Variable Suspension, which continuously changes shock absorber dampening in response to road conditions, speed, steering, braking, and vertical vehicle movement is optional.

Safety features don’t disappoint with this impressive car. The standard package includes anti-lock brakes, electronic brake-force distribution, side-impact airbags for the front, and side-curtain airbags for the front and rear. Also, all seating positions have three-point seat belts.
