2007 Lexus ES350 Review

Designed to satisfy drivers who value comfort and a luxurious interior.

Reviewed by Automotive on

The 2007 Lexus ES350 is an entry-level front-wheel drive (FWD) luxury sedan that seats five.

Lexus’ success as an automaker comes from satisfying its customer base by providing vehicles that epitomize quiet refinement. The 2007 Lexus ES350 is no exception. Its larger engine and six-speed shiftable automatic transmission also offers greater performance than its previous generation of ES vehicles and manages to offer respectable fuel economy at the same time.

The Range

Body Styles: Sedan
Engines: 3.5-liter 272-hp V-6
Transmissions: six-speed shiftable automatic
Models: ES350

What's New

The ES is redesigned for 2007. It now offers a 3.5-liter engine, additional luxury features, and interior improvements.

Although the ES350 is new for 2007, it retains the shape of previous ES vehicles. It has Lexus’ sharp creases and wrap-around taillights offered in its other luxury vehicles. The wheelbase and track dimensions have been increased. 17-inch alloy wheels, a chrome grille, variable intermittent wipers, daytime running lights, fog lights, auto delay off dusk-sensing headlights, remote anti-theft alarm system with engine immobilizer, and tire pressure monitoring all come standard.

Optional equipment includes adaptive Xenon High-Intensity Discharge (HID) headlights, panoramic power sunroof, and chrome wheels.

The 2007 Lexus ES350 interior is luxurious, and offers impressive sound insulation. Drivers and passengers will feel cradled in comfort and refined elegance. From the wood accents to the leather/metal/vinyl trim, it is well-built and well-fitted.

Standard Interior features include 10-way power driver and passenger seat with power lumbar support and height adjustment, cloth upholstery, bucket front seats, rear center armrest with pass-thru, cruise control, front console with storage, first aid kit, keyless entry/ignition, retained accessory power, speed-proportional power steering, universal remote transmitter, 12-volt power outlet, leather-wrapped power tilt/telescoping steering wheel with audio and cruise control functions, interior air filtration, dual-zone climate controls, wood interior trim, auto-dimming rearview mirror, tachometer, trip computer, external temperature display, compass, and AM/FM/six-CD changer/MP3 audio system with eight speakers and radio data system.

Optional equipment includes leather upholstery, heated/ventilated front seats, parking assist, Bluetooth connectivity, memory settings, power rear sunshade, adaptive cruise control, a navigation system with voice activation, and a premium Mark Levinson audio system with satellite radio and surround sound.

The trunk offers 14.7 cubic feet of cargo capacity. Although the rear seatbacks do not fold down to increase cargo space, the rear center armrest has a pass-thru to enable you to carry skis or other long items.

Performance & Handling

The 2007 Lexus ES350 is equipped with a 3.5-liter, V-6 engine that generates 272 hp and 254 ft-lb of torque. The six-speed shiftable automatic offers smooth gear changes, and the suspension insulates passengers from bumps in the road and from highway noise. The 2007 Lexus ES350 is one of the quietest cars during freeway speeds.

FWD is standard and helpful when road conditions are slick. Despite not being known as a performance sedan, the 2007 Lexus ES350 clocked in at a decent 7.1 seconds in a zero-to-60-mph sprint. Rest assured that it will be adequate in accelerating on freeway on-ramps and providing a pleasant riding experience.

2007 Lexus EX350 standard safety equipment includes four-wheel independent MacPherson strut front and rear suspensions, front and rear stabilizer bars, four-wheel Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), emergency braking assist, electronic brake force distribution, ventilated front disc and solid rear disc brakes, stability control, traction control, and eight standard airbags. Lexus’ Pre-Collision System (PCS) uses radar to determine if an accident is imminent by tracking vehicles and items that are extremely close to the ES. If the system detects that an accident is imminent, the seat belts automatically tighten and braking assist is put into action, enabling the driver to have an easier time stopping the vehicle. This is not to say that the PCS is a substitute for alert and careful driving.

In government crash testing, the 2007 Lexus ES350 scored a perfect five stars in frontal-impact tests. In side-impact tests, the 2007 Lexus ES350 received five stars for front-occupant protection and four stars for rear occupants.
