2011 Lexus ES350 Review

Makes up for in value what it lacks in excitement

Reviewed by Automotive on

In a Nutshell
The 2011 Lexus ES 350 midsize luxury sedan is a comfortable, quiet car that is easy to drive. It is equipped with a 3.5-liter V-6 268 horsepower engine offering 248 pound-feet of torque coupled to a six speed automatic transmission. The ES 350's smooth ride and luxurious interior make it popular with folks who want to get where they are going in comfort and don't necessarily want a sporty drive.

With added emphasis on safety, the Lexus ES 350 is outfitted with some of the most comprehensive and latest technology systems available. While many luxury features are standard, the ES 350 offers an impressive array of options. What's more, with an EPA fuel economy rating in the 19 mpg city/27 mpg highway range and requiring only regular gas, its luxury is more affordable than many competitors.

New for 2011

Since in 2010 the Lexus ES 350 underwent new styling and upgrades, not very much changed in 2011. The 3.5-liter V-6 engine is pretty much the same, but now has six fewer horsepower and six fewer pound-feet of torque, which help with fuel economy. Surprisingly, Lexus changed the recommended fuel from premium to regular gas, which lowers ownership costs. Other changes include making the leather interior trim a standard feature and Deep Sea Mica replaced Black Sapphire Pearl in the color palette.

On the Outside

The Infinite ES 350 continues to be a midsize luxury car based on an attractive traditional design with a few flashes here and there. The ES 350 got a new frontal grille, new side mirrors with integrated turn signals, new taillights, new fog lights, and brand new headlights in 2010, and so the 2011 remained pretty much unchanged.

From the Interior

Leather interior trim is standard on the ES 350, as well as last year's new steering wheel buttons, contrast stitching, cover on the center console, navigation software, and Bluetooth audio and phone features.

Driving Performance

The 2011 Lexus ES 350 runs from 0-to-60 mph in roughly 7.0 seconds, slightly slower than the 2010 model. Primarily a luxury car with a smooth ride, suspension on the ES 350 is soft and compliant.

Safety Equipment

Standard are 10 airbags: dual front, dual front knee, front and rear side curtain, and front and rear side airbags. Also standard are stability control, traction control, four-wheel discs with ABS, brake assist, and electronic brake force distribution.
